Unhappy First time asking for HELP in a couple years..

Well I am getting ready to do the clutch replacement on the T2 and figured that I would use up every last bit of the weak clutch that is in there.. What better way then to go autocrossing right?? So Yesterday i decided to adjust the clutch master cyl to give me a little more bite on the clutch. (the car was slipping the clutch under boost) So I removed the master (and adjusted the arm that connects to the clutch pedal) I basically ran i all the way in (shortening the rod as it were)..

Now the car behaves as if the clutch is pressed in ALL the time. I put it in gear and the car will not move when I remove my foot off the clutch. It acts as if in nuetral alll the time. The pedal feels signifigantly tighter then before.

Why would shortening the shaft length make the clutch engadged all the time??

I am a little confused, and really want to start driving the car again..

you did it...In Reverse..and question:why would you take the master off.Can you not reach the adjustments Under the Dash?..there are Two adjustment Points under the dash.they take either a 10mm Wrench or 12mm..By varying the Nut position,on the Rods Going to the Master and the rod that the Pedal rests on,,you can adjust When the Clutch engages When you push your Foot on the pedal, and when it Take hold of the pressure Plate when you Let up on the Pedal.

If you make teh shaft shorter, more of it is in the master cylinder pushing it, which causes the slave cylinder to be extended. Thats why your car is in neutral all the time. Try making the shaft longer, but not too long to where you will press the clutch in and not even engange the clutch.
Also you dont have to remove the master cylinder, just loosen the bolts.

Just make sure to re-adjust it to the specified 1-2 inches (?) of freeplay when you get that new clutch.

Put a ruler or tape measure next to the clutch pedal and push it down with your hand, it should only move (without excessive force) or have free play of the specified amount which is somewhere between 1-2 inches, its in the FSM.

Edit: Since I have the FSM in front of me...

3/16 to 1/2 inch-freeplay (assuming you have a TII)
8-5/8 to 8-7/8 inch- height.
