FD alt. installed!

finally I got my alternator installed and my lights are brighter than ever. I am constantly running 14v now. While I was installing it and regrounded the engine grounds and chassis grounds no more 3800 rpm hesitation. here are some pics.

Thumbs up

Your pix didn't make it, but congrats on the Alt Swap. Nice to hear someone getting good results. I've got the Alt myself and am planning to do all the same stuff you did in the next month.

Uhh...I am planning the reground mod along with the Alt Swap and other related electrical stuff. I don't know how long it's going to take. I will be consulting the Forum Archive. Check it out.

lol 91 mazdarx7, your run on sentence made me laugh my *** of, and just out of curosity, when you put an fd alternator into an FC i assume there is just a little more work to be done than just the mounting brackets? espically since running 14v instead of 12v consistantly to everything in the car that isn't regulated you may consistantly overheat it and damage burning it out. Or am i wrong?

You're right about the sentence, which is downright scary, but wrong about the alternator. Go to the Archive or Search.

My car did the same thing when I first installed my FD alt. I did some research and found out that I was told to solder the wires wrong on the plug. Swap the wires on the plug, and you'll be good to go.

yeah I just soldered the wires (FD adapter) and took off the positive terminal on the FC alt and put it on the FD one. Other then that its just a direct swap.

i have a s5 so i didn't need to solder a new plug in i just used my old one from my old alt as for the bracket work i just had to loosen the bracket and move it up just alittle but the whole swap took about 30 minutes

If you are attempting to use a Double Pulley on a FD Alternator, fitted for an FC, you will have to do more than drill the hole bigger...you will have to machine the lip and use a spacer, but likely fail. When I first started, I used those $9 Double Pullies fitted for a FC which yield me with zero results. Buy hIGGI's Pulley - they are a work of art.
