more work.....

got some important stuff done today, even tho it still seems like little tangible progress.

1)set up fuel pressure regulator. opted to use the paxton unit for now, but will definately upgrading to either a vortech or begi unit. i went ahead and mounted to the subframe near the pass. side wheel weel and firewall. ran line from stock fpr to paxton unit and then paxton unit to hard metal line back to tank. also removed the stock 460cc injectors. hope to god my 550's get here soon so i can proceed.

2) finished oiler cooler setup. mounted oil cooler infront of radiator and ran lines from the filter to the cooler and the cooler to dead space (untill i mount the s/c of course).

thats pretty much it today, an exam in the middle of the day and a trip to autozone for spare hose and clamps sucked down alot of my time.

See post # 45

And you have the routing correct for the RR FPR.

i know i haven't posted in a while but i have been tinkering with small stuff. now everything is nearly done. only have to finish attaching the inlet elbow( broke a clamp so have to go to autozone tonight) and put on belts. the newer bigger pulley does not line up correctly so i am gonna run the smaller until i can get this adjusted. heres a pic.

just make sure you get the car dynoed. I don't think the gains are worth it but I still would like to see what gains you DO see.

Interesting solution to the filler neck on the upper rad hose- looks a little frankenstein. Did you adapt the stock filler neck for that, or come up with something else altogether?

phoenix7- i hope so. as i am about to say, its a pretty good fit. i think it will do fine unless coolant pressure reaches a very high value
introvert- yea i know its a friggin mutant. what i did was to cut out that portion of the stock filler neck that has the cap and sawed off the mount point and smoothed it all out with a dremel. i then found the place on the pipe that was provided that most closely had the same curve and cut out that portion. thus splicing the stock cap in with the hoses. the actual pipe sections are actually inside one another. the outside portions(not with the cap) are just a hair smaller and sliped into the stock section very tightly.the hose sections are just acting as a cover of sorts. you know what i mean?

Looks fairly good so far... at least its grounds to build on.

If the car can at least become mobile then you're good for now and can replace/modify parts as you get time and money..

I would be concerned in regards to the upper radiator hose as well though as you will be shocked how easily that sort of thing can blow apart. You may want to look into swapping in an s5 radiator and getting some normal rad hoses for it.

I'm in VA as well and will maybe somebody see this thing so it better look good

I have been running without the upper filler and the stock S4 rad configuration and have had no problems with overheating. You just have to be a little creative about getting the air out of the system. I am also using royal purple in the rad (water wetter) and have ALL stock shrouding and undertray in place, as well as a CAI box (ambient air intake is more accurate, though).

One question, one concern.

That radiator pipe looks like a leak waiting to happen.

Also, how will the supercharger bypass air at high RPMs under low throttles? Won't it be forcing against a closed throttle body? In configurations like this normally a BOV or bypass is used.

You are correct, of course- I have a GReddy BOV and plan to find someone to weld the flange into the intake elbow for just such a purpose. It will be vented to atmo, because I like a little "psssshhh" with my blower whine

Change your radiator hose setup. If you are going to put this much money into a car, might as well do it properly.

Someone on this forum bought a GTU with the same setup as you have, but nothing was half-assed, and it shows. Check out his radiator hose setup.

to all- i know the rad. pipe/ hose looks like **** but my main concern right now is having it running. like we3rx7 said prior, parts can be modified later. i dont have a second vehicle so im pretty much wearing out the girlfriend/friend/cousin/coworker ride and am building up a good little attendence record at work. i want the thing mobile for transportation and performance/effeciency will be my new year's resolution. this wasnt supposed to be a big project with everything being cutom worked onto the car, but do to getting an s5 kit, thats what its become. i know i have no one to blame but myself for lack of preparation but you live you learn. *not trying to lash out at anyone, just fustrated after a long day at work and having to stay an extra 1.5 hours to wait for the ride. i know it might not seem like it but i really do appreciate all the input/concern/support* keep it coming guys

I understand that, but its not going to get you to work any quicker if your radiator hose has a problem while driving.

That is the very same paxton kit which I purchased from Chris which now resides between the fenders of my 'vert.

Just a suggestion, at least double clamp all those connections.

Good luck!

completion...

today i wrapped this project up! i changed the pulley back to the small one (for now) finished hooking up/tightening different clamps and bolts and such, put on the belts and cooling fan, filled the coolant and hooked up the battery. everything went smooth with the exception of there not being enough coolant at first (prompted by the idiot light and buzzer) eventhough the overfolw tank read full? anyway, after filling somemore it started and idled fine and drove to the gas station to fill up. once i returned i noticed that one of my new (to me)injectors had a small leak. this will be the next thing to be tackled. at least the car is drivable. after the injector i want to fix the radiator issue(which didnt leak at all) and then get a better aftermarket fpr/fmu, then switch to the new pulley(after some modification. lastly i want to take aaron's suggestion and get a bov. sorry theres no vid(i may get one taken as well as a dyno sheet once all the other issues are solved) but theres pics to enjoy!!

Either properly safetywire the blower housing or remove the bit that's on there...it looks silly.
Just being picky, like.
