FC reliability ?
hey, im new to rx7s. well still doesnt have one yet. but i saw this rx7 for sale and i was wondering is it worth getting. can sumone tell me the reliabiliy of a 89 rx7 turbo? iono about rotary engines, but ive heard that it doesnt really last longer than piston ones. is that true? how long does a turbo rotary engine last till? well the reason y i want it cuz it says it have 200hp. can sumone help me. tell me wat kinda problems does a turbo rotary engine gives and how hard is it to maintain it and how often will i need to rebuild the engine and all them other stuff...
and also wat should i look for when i go check out the car? i havent checked it out yet..
heres the car that i kinda wanna get...

Rebuilding the 7
You probably need to read the faq before asking a pretty loaded question like that but rotary engines are no more or less reliable than any other engine. Turbo motors tend to go a little earlier because they are driven and abused a little more but the rotary engine is a very well design machine. I would rather have one than most any other mid to late 80's and early 90's cars.

did someone put rotary and reliabilty in the same sentence? Like someone I know always says. The R in rx7 doesn't stand for reliability it's like dating a high maintanance woman. it's fun when they are happy but it takes lots of money, time and .......money to get them that way

This rotary engine is not just any other car, its something you have to be devotied to. Like hondahater said:
True that... the Rx 7 is a project car, its for someone who loves to work on them and spends the time to make it just right. and if you drive it nicely, it will be nice to you...
BTW... Dont be so overcome by HP its not always HP that makes you go fast... there lots of things. HP to weight ratio is a big one. just cause it says 200 horses doesnt mean it will go MACH 1
so if your not into ALWAYS working on your car, i would say a rotary isnt for you. but if your willing to put time and money into it the go for it and WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF AN FC

Old Rotary Dog
It's as if not more reliable than any other 15-25 year old car. And it looks better. :-)
N/A rotories tend to last a very long time if they are taken care of. The engine also tends to remain "strong" longer then piston engines, Just ask the people who race them on the track - both the club level (Improved touring, Spec-7, etc) as well as the pro levels (Formula Mazda).
A lot of the reliability issues stem from the the turbo-charged implementations. Rotary engines are very sensitive to either overheating or running lean (the "ping-o-death") both of which are conditions much more commonly experienced on the turbo versions.
