I just talked to Leonard on the phone for awhile and things are right on schedule. He will have garage space and time in about a month and a half to two months from now. Between now and then, we are going to be doing polling and continuing threads like this.
We talked about a few things. We basicly just cleared up some things that I had questions about and things that he had questions about. This is how we will be doing this.
First off let me say that Leonard will be doing these kits/parts. I will not be an owner of the design, or get any comission for this. I am doing this solely for personal reasons. I want our cars (which I personally prefer over everything avail with exception to Porsche's) to become more modern. These cars obviously are not dying out, and if anything they are growing in popularity. More modern body pieces will add to that.
Leonard will also be handling all of the transactions and price setting etc. I will be basicly a consultant to him on what we want in the kits/parts.
We talked about doing different kits, i.e. mild and wild. From his standpoint, we will do one kit style and then depending on it's popularity, we will proceed with others in different form.
These are going to be initially sold as kits. He will be offering them as single pieces as well, but there is a savings in ordering the whole kit. I'll explain that in a sec.
It will not be a wide body kit to start. These will be kits consisting of a new bumper, side shirts, and rear bumper(possibly a wing and or hood). The rear bumper won't be just some small piece that bolts onto the rear like an underpan. All of the pieces will bolt on as if they were stock pieces. No bodywork will be needed other than painting them to match cars color (if you drive around with white kit pieces on a black TII, I WILL hunt you down j/k )
As far as the ordering goes etc...he will have his designers do some basic drawings and possibly some smaller models etc. Then we will publicise them to get feedback. From there he will start taking pre-orders for kits/pieces? (not clear on which yet) The pre-orders will be 50% of the total cost of the whole kit. When the kits are close to finishing (last week before shipment) then the rest of the ammount will be due before shipping. We don't have any minimum order, but the initial kits may be discounted to promote the new product (not sure yet) After those are done, and shipped, he will then start selling them to the public through his website only. He will not distribute these kits to other dealers, as he has had bad experiences with that where the dealers turn it into a price war for consumers. His prices will remain constant.
Initial cost guesses of the complete kit are set at $1650 for the complete bolt on kit. The pieces will be offered seperately as well, but will cost more when they are all added up. Remember, this is ONLY a guess that we came up with. One thing I do like is this...
Say you buy just the bumper, then the side skirts. Then you decide that you want to buy say the last piece of the kit. He will knock the price of the last piece of the kit so that you only pay what the whole kit would have cost in the beginning. In other words, your only price increase for buying the parts seperate is the shipping differences. Shipping BTW, will most likely be handled by truck freight. The side shirts may be able to go UPS or FedEx, but that is unknown at this time.
Other things that we talked about are fixed headlights, vented hoods, etc. Basicly I touched base on everything I had taken notes from here on.
That is basicly where we are today. As I get more info, I will forward it on to you here and on my website

I'll put off getting anything until I see what you come up with. Looks like the timing will work out well for a winter project on my convertible.
I can't express enough my want for the RE2000 style stationary headlights. I like the functional vents above the headlights on that kit too. I'll still consider something different if the price and styling is good.

I agree that the RE2000 headlight styling is right around what we have in mind. Where do the vents go after the air flows into the bumper area? When the first drawings come out, I am pretty confident that you will all (well most of you ) like what we have come up with.

Taillights, taillights, taillights.
I would love to see some new designs for taillights. Not altezza though, skyline would be cool, so would TT Supra, I own an 87 T2 and the only thing I don't like are the taillights. Fenders with working ducts to the brake rotors and a front bumper that comes with Modena style headlights. That would be cool.

A lot of development went into the Mariah kits in "airflow management" based on the info they sent me. I know you get what you pay for but IF this is just some show piece, I don't think I'd be interested. At the very least it should bolt to the undertray and all the other pieces Mazda spent good money engineering up front there.
Mazdaspeed7: I haven't forgot about you. I just finalized some details tonight.

How about making a Single sided rear bumper for us N1 guys?
ever thought of making a full fiber-glass body? that would drop ALOT of weight.

Anyway - about a wish list.
1) A wing that will fit on the FC rear deck and look like the Mazdaspeed GTC or C'West Carbon Fiber wing. It has to have full adjustabilty.
2) A FULL widebody kit that consists of nose/front fenders/side skirts/rear flares/rear bumper that will allow at least 275's in the front, and like 315's in the rear. The problem with the Tri-Point widebody kit is that the transition from the narrow nose to the wide fenders just looks plain goofy. We need something that's more integrated. Make the kit kinda get rid of the hard line that runs just above the wheel arches down the car - that's an 80's thing. Instead make it more like that Saleen kit, with the ridge that runs up and over the wheel arches.
3) Make the nose simple, but agressive. One huge opening for an intercooler, and two big brake duct holes on either side. Also include new brake ducts from the nose to the brakes. Possibly integrate a rear brake duct opening in the side of the widebody kit. The nose should also eliminate the popup headlights. Maybe lights like a SC300, except make the main light smaller - but with projector lamps.
4) Make a piece that will replace the stock tail-lights with something Skyline looking. One big round light on the outside with a reverse light in the center, and a smaller round light inside of that. Make the liscense plate hole less conspicuous in this piece.
5) A functional rear diffuser. This should be something that's an option to the widebody kit, and could be added later.
6) Obviously a scooped hood. I really like the style of the Scoot hood. I would make the hood shaped like an Integra hood, like with no square on the corners for the stock pop-up headlight covers. This would work with the new nose to eliminate the look of the pop-up headlights completely. Maybe mould in some sort of NACA duct into the right front of the hood to work with a ram-air setup.

Also, whats wrong with combat style body kits? if you have the power that they deserve then by all means they are sweet, on a non modified car they are try hard bolloux i agree.
how about some side skirts that look similar to the veilside ones?

That C-west kit is Suh-wheet!! I also dig the RE2000 headlights. As for pop-up vs. non pop-up, have you guys noticed that alot of Japanese Aero Tuners have 2 different versions? That would be a great option. I personally dislike all flush mounted headlights- except the RE2000 headlights. Please, for God's sake, NO COMBAT/VEILSIDE KITS! Leave that kit for the more curvy FD's... Just my two cents.

The C-West kit is sooo sweet, wow, I would go for that for sure because I've been looking to buy a bodykit and at first I thought erebuni, but nope, C West type with RE2000 headlights...whoa...
Oh yeah, I also like the RE Amemyia rear wing, one guy here has it one his Red RX7, it is really nice, I'll try to post s apic

Yeah, I think the gereral concensus is that the C-West kit would have been pretty sweet. Matched with the RE headlight/bumper combo may just be an option.
Like I said, we are going to take the most popular pieces, and make a kit. Simple as that Then you will have the option of buying the kit as a whole, or getting it in pieces.
Here are a few other things he has done as far as kits go This is an example of the caliber of kit we are talking here. I figure that some of you may be skeptical, which I would to if I hadn't seen first hand the product finish of other things he already has done. More to come...

I am extremely impressed by the vision from the three examples you've shown. Thumbs up man! I especially like the motorbike. Reminds me of the conceptual drawings I saw from Aprilia. ^_- Quick question: Are those the carbs I'm seeing underneath the seats on the motorbike?
I really can't wait to see what you guys can do in terms of the designs. Plus I'm hoping that the materials you eventualy set on won't be the cheap fiberglass, and i mean the CHEAP kind. For me, it really depends on the price of the whole kit since I've already spent mucho cash on making the car what it is now. But what I've been reading on this thread it seems like a definately sale to me!
Good luck and I CAN'T WAIT!
Peace,
AJ ^_^
