FC Body Kits/ Body Parts

I have been talking with the owner of AED Central, who is the designer of some body kits for some American made cars, about some new things for the RX-7. I will be taking the Project 86 over to his shop in the next couple of months so we can go over some ideas and toss around some thoughts. After we get some ideas together, he is going to foam mold the Project 86 and start making some parts and kits for our cars. He wasn't aware that there was such a small supply and choice of kits, bumpers, hoods, everything for our cars. If there are things that you FC owners have thought you would like avail to our cars, then now is the time to make it heard. If it is a body part, then he can make it. Headlight kits, side skirts...anything that goes on the outside of our cars. These are also going to be functional parts, like the bumpers will have air channels to direct air into not only the oil cooler, but the radiator, FMIC if you have one...etc. I sent him some prelim photos of some of the current offerings to the FC population like border and knightsport etc.. so he can get an idea. I am looking for other ideas from you guys and gals as to what you would be interested in. Be specific, and don't ask if he can do gauge pods for the interior Exterior parts only.

Also, on a side note. If any of you guys/gals own an FB or FD and would be interested in loaning out your car for molds and things like that to be made, let me know. If the FC part goes well, then he will getting into FD and FB chassis's. You have to be in the San Diego area and you will probably get your parts free upon completion of the design process.

cheaper fender flares

hmm... vented fenders? Carbon Fiber hood with a scoop? how about a sunroof cover with a molded air ventilator (i.e. mclaren f1's roof scoop). A front bumper which will hold 2 big *** fog lights...preferably nice blue ones! Hmm...what else. That's all for now, but I'll be back.

Hey Dave - if I got a nitrous kit, would you mind helpin a fellow brotha out?

side skirts

I would like to see much more aggressive side skirts, like the kits they have for the Mx-6. I want aggressive sides, not just lower to the ground. And also, a more agressive Front Spoiler. I like the large fog light idea in the far corners, and one w/o one. And also a headlight kit that takes away the flip-up lights. one with a clear piece over 2 round lights. Would be tight. What about tail lights? Like the Altezzas? Thats all for now.

this front spoiler. The original is made my Mazdaspeed and is sold by Corksport

Also, how about the rear undermoulding. I cant find a pic now, but Ill get one later. it goes below the rear bumper and covers up the gas tank and mufflers and matches right up with the rear bumper.

Great info guys...keep it comming. Although, I refuse to put those rice/civic/altezza lights on my FC. I am trying to stand out from the rice, not blend in =P

These kits are going to be cery aggressive, according to Leonard (AED owner) Here is the reply to my email from Leonard.

"Thank you. I am positive that if AEDCentral were to produce something for this vehicle, it would be completely different and be VERY aggressive. These styles have nothing to them and they cost an arm and a leg. I was in disbelief with the prices."

Oh, did I mention that he was one of the main designers for the Shelby and Saleen race cars? Here is one of his "hard molds" for the Saleen.

I am dead serious about this thread. The kits will come and they are going to cost next to nothing compared to anything on the market now. This feedback, along with the feedback I have from my site, and the various lists I subscribe to are going to makeup what these kits/parts look like.

I'd be ALL OVER a set of front fenders that look stock but are a bit (1.5"-2" maybe?) wider- like the Mariah ones, without the Mariah pricetag... $375 per fender? SHEESH! Who are they kidding? They need to fit properly and be useable with a stock nosecap.

Also some sideskirts similar to the 89+ TII.

A rear bumper cover with only a right side exhaust outlet? (Perhaps one with no outlet, but marked so you can cut out either/both depending on exhaust?) Nothing too radical- I want smooth, not "rice." Just similar to stock, perhaps modified a bit to work with the sideskirts.

A "lip" for the 86-88 cars would be nice... not a whole nose, just a lip, perhaps even extending back to the bottom of the wheel opening. Again- smooth and subtle, none of the "combat" crap.

I personally don't like "wild" kits. The car looks great as is- why overdo it?

Oh... fixed lights perhaps? I dunno...

Definately a hood with a vent- I've seen some! To vent hot air from the radiator OUT. Like a reverse-scoop thing...
This item I would certainly consider... the fenders above I would be ready to order if the price is reasonable.

something that I saw on a Miata and loved (but haven't seen anything like it on an RX) was a non retractable headlight kit that was integrated into the front bumper cover and was in the space the pop-ups were, but was round single lense per side (almost like the classic Porsche) and slightly built up from hood level on the back side to get angle for real lighting. Would look great on a TII hood complimenting the raised I/C scoop, but might look weird w/ NA hood. Wish I knew who make the Miata kit; it is sweet!

Can he make copies of most of the popular Japanese kits like the RE Amemiya light and bumpers. I love those conversions, but just can afford the outrageous price tag. If he can make something similar to the RE Amemiya kit for a reasonable price, put me on the waiting list.

If he could make some flared fenders that aren't to flared to the point that I need new wheels because it looks odd. Also if he could duplicate the Panspeed front end that would totally rock. I don't have a pic, but if someone does could they please post it!

WOW. I hate Mustangs but that Saleen looks twice as good as any other Mustang, although the Cobra R is an interesting bit of kit. If he could do something that refined & aggressive for the FC I would mortgage a child for the kit.

how about a rear fender widener set, the front fenders are popped out enuff i think, just make the rear fenders as far out or maybe 1" more than the front and it would look great, ummm i like fold down lights but i would rather have a dual round setup, yea i like the foglight in the bumper idea, maybe a small lip on the bottom, i personally think the mazdaspeed underlip looks bad, a hood scoop would be nice, the red car they posted the pic of with a under mold would look awesome. that saleen looks very very sweet, if he can make an FC look that agressive that would be freakin awesome, put me down for a front, hood, rear apron and under mold, wing and i also like that sun roof idea like the mclaren. maybe replacement everything so you can get rid of the trim on our cars, that looks great without trim thats about all i can think of now

Run Racing style headlights would be neat (I know I've posted multiple times about them.) and a little of a widened/lowered body. http://www.pac-gate.co.jp/run/ <- Run Racing page it's in japanese but, just click on FC3S if you don't know what I'm talking about.

The problem with the front fenders is that you can only fit about a 225 series tire MAX. The rear is good up to 245 or 255.

Actually those Mariah fenders are pretty sweet. I bought a pair and was very impressed with their quality. The car was shot yesterday, and I'm going out there in the morn tomorrow to take some pics with the Border nose.

Anyway - about a wish list.

1) A wing that will fit on the FC rear deck and look like the Mazdaspeed GTC or C'West Carbon Fiber wing. It has to have full adjustabilty.

2) A FULL widebody kit that consists of nose/front fenders/side skirts/rear flares/rear bumper that will allow at least 275's in the front, and like 315's in the rear. The problem with the Tri-Point widebody kit is that the transition from the narrow nose to the wide fenders just looks plain goofy. We need something that's more integrated. Make the kit kinda get rid of the hard line that runs just above the wheel arches down the car - that's an 80's thing. Instead make it more like that Saleen kit, with the ridge that runs up and over the wheel arches.

3) Make the nose simple, but agressive. One huge opening for an intercooler, and two big brake duct holes on either side. Also include new brake ducts from the nose to the brakes. Possibly integrate a rear brake duct opening in the side of the widebody kit. The nose should also eliminate the popup headlights. Maybe lights like a SC300, except make the main light smaller - but with projector lamps.

4) Make a piece that will replace the stock tail-lights with something Skyline looking. One big round light on the outside with a reverse light in the center, and a smaller round light inside of that. Make the liscense plate hole less conspicuous in this piece.

5) A functional rear diffuser. This should be something that's an option to the widebody kit, and could be added later.

6) Obviously a scooped hood. I really like the style of the Scoot hood. I would make the hood shaped like an Integra hood, like with no square on the corners for the stock pop-up headlight covers. This would work with the new nose to eliminate the look of the pop-up headlights completely. Maybe mould in some sort of NACA duct into the right front of the hood to work with a ram-air setup.

I could go on

wow... a lot of great suggestions... i don't know if mine will be any better... I'm lookin to purchase a kit this winter definitely, and this little project sounds great. i live on the east coast, but i definitely want to be a part of this... my suggestion is not as original as some of the others.. but here it goes...

how about a kit that is along th line of erebuni shogun kits? or veilside's FD kit? or their miata c1 kit? wat about their supra c2 kits? i've seen some kits for the FCs, but none of them have the smooth lines, or the huge mouth seen on these front ends.... R34 rear light set up would be nice... wat about supra rear lights?

i also like the half sleep look of the pop up lights... carbon fiber hood with larger hood vent on monochromatic white Anniv. Ed.? HELLZ YEA... i'll take TWO please~

i definitely agree wid BOOSTD 7 on the spoilers... FC owners don't have too much of choice in body enhancements, especially spoilers.. what about a double deck wing with small lips on the sides in either carbo fiber or aluminum... fully adjustible, of course..

keep us informed with this project... i'm definitely interested in obtainin this kit!!!!!!!!!!

Simple, something that would resemble the PANSPEED front end, non retracting headlights and something to scoop up air for IC. Carbon fiber/FG hood w/pins (without duct preferebly).

See if he could manufacture a rear undertray like pictured above, hopefully if it was done right it wouldn't increase drag below the car.

air......undertray.
------>/

wouldn't it get ripped off the bottem or force air into it? Maybe if it had some slits...im guessing here, never done ANY design work.

See if he could make some nice aero mirrors, im sure people would be all over that too.

I really like Mariah's front nose for the FC but I don't like the vents across the middle. It looks like a Supra or something. I am not talking about the wide kit. I like the flat front. I would do something about the rectangle lights. It looks very 80'sish.

Talking

Here are a couple important aspects for myself.

1) Should be aggressive, but not out of control with a huge grille or anything. Aggressive but still clean looking (That Saleen was a good example)
2)Price (you have already addressed that)
3) Fitment. I want the piece to fit as cleanly as possible with little or no permanent modification to the frame or chassis.

I look forward to seeing what these products might look like.

Even better if it utilized stock bolt up locations...just my opinion

Kits like the Run Racing and RE Amemiya which include head light conversions, and more aggressive side skirts, just like mentioned above. No Rice, Kombat kits, leave that to the honda boys.
