I poped my motor in my 87 TII "st*t" oh well im thinking about getting one of those j-spec motors “I hate that term” I was wounding what I have to do to put and 89-91 in my car I know that I have to change over the oil injection system what else I’m going to have to change over to get it to run right. stick with the same year engine...i'd personally recommend you getting a rebuild with s5 rotors. this way you'll get a "refresh" motor with the lighter rotors and higher compression as the s5 but will "drop" into your s4.
and the cpu is NOT the same...

 

my friend went through 3 jspec motors. in about 1 month.
they are crap. its worth it to do a good rebuild

Jspecs should only be considered a core for a rebuild. They have been sitting around in junk yards too long to be worth driving
