Exploding overflow tank! and cooing system pressure, AHH!

Ok guys so heres the story....
I was talking to a friend at work a few nights ago while letting my car warm up and all of a sudden my motor starts smoking! so i jump into my car and the Temp gauge reads 300'F!
I grab my fire extinguisher and pop the hood. while opening the hood my overflow tank's top blows off, thereby spraying my face with said 300'f coolant.
needless to say I fall to the groung and try to wipe the Antifreeze from my eyes.
Well we rush inside to the eyewash station and I flush out my eyes and rinse my face. Well my face Is still mildy scarred and peeling but my eyesight is fine. (glad I wear contacts)
*the e-fan never came on*

but anyway the cause of this post.

My engine rotated fine and once the radiator was refilled, and the fan fixed she started right up and idled fine. Now my cooling system held up to 14ish pounds of pressure. Now could that change with time or would I have seen a pressure drop instantly if one of my cooling seals had become damaged?

so whats the diagnosis doc?

300 is damn scary, but i guess it is possible to have not blown the seals. there is a possibility that the coolant seal/s may have a little gap that would open with time, but there would probably be a noticable difference at fitst. i think it should be ok if it is holding 14 psi. how long was the cooling system pressurized?

well I actually used a pressure testing tool, I know its not loosing pressure now, But my question is can a leak develop in the near future

Drive it, watch the temp and check the coolant level frequently.

If its blown you'll knwo soon enough, no need to panic yet.

A cracked water jacket will give you temps over 200 F within a few minutes of driving. So yeah, you'll know quickly if it's time for a rebuild.

You can also check for bubbles in the coolant just after startup. If it's sucking air into the coolant system, it'll be obvious that way too.

AH HA HA! I know that sounds mean... but I was the friend that was with him that night. That was a strange night.... but still funny when i think about it Mind you the reason why its soo funny to me is, this is before i thought much of rotories and he was telling me how his car takes such a long time to warm up, and then 2 minutes later his radiator explodes.

Why didn't the fan come on? Doesn't it have a temperature controlled switch?
