Wanna stright pipe got concerns
Hey guy I got a 87 na with a 5 speed from what little I have read is if I take out the cats it's gonna run lean and blow up and I don't want to do that but every video and picture I have seen has a muffler backing it saying it's straight piped but knowing I have a o2 that will throw a code what all do I need to do so I can straight pipe my car and not blow it up I have a 97 powerstroke that I stright piped turbo back no issues what so ever I know it's a diesel and completely different but it doesn't need back pressure like I think my rx does what do I need to do?

no your car will most certainly not "blow up" from taking the cats out, turbos run into slight problems if they take the cats out without tuning, but youre fine.
id recommend getting a resonator or silencer as a replacement, because if you take the cats out without putting some other sound dampening youre gonna have a hell of a lot of noise thats not too pretty.
are you on an aftermarket catback? i wouldnt do catless on a stock catback (even though i did, but i had the racing beat downpipe/silencer, which is pretty quiet)

straight pipe with those glass packs is going to make you car sound like angry bees and it's not a good sound at all.

I have a similar setup based on what you are saying. I have dual perforated stainless steel packed/ceramic wool mufflers on the back and before when I deleted the cat, it was too loud. I welded in a resonator into my cat delete pipe and it is still loud, but it doesn't sound like a thousand angry bees.

Grabba Dabba Goo!
My na is "straight piped" I guess you could say cat rusted off so had a pipe welded between the useless precats and my shitty ebay cat back and trust me it's retarded. Only did it due to not being able to afford a racing beat system at the time..eventually will get one.
It's actually So loud it's embarrassing pulling away from a light it's as loud as a drag car yet if I was going full throttle an average camry could pull away from me not even trying. Lol.
I have to hunker down in the seat everytime I pull away because of how much of a goof I look.
Don't be like THAT me.

funny how everyone ditches the stock catback for even worse sounding exhaust "systems".
wanna have a cool car? spend some money and buy something worthwhile or just leave the damn stock catback on, it actually flows quite well.
ironically i have a big single turbo, 3" exhaust to the catback and a stock turbo catback on my car yet i see people rocking pure **** exhausts on non turbo cars that sound and perform like crap in a bag. maybe i am the different one, since i feel unique in that 9 out of 10 FCs do NOT have this catback.

Only reason I don't have stock cat back is cuz that's how the car was when I got it otherwise I would have left it on there all I have now are some shitty glass packs haha

i dunno what the hell is wrong with that car but i can tell you mine doesn't sound quite so chitty chitty bang bang. ie that car is fucked up.
does the stock exhaust sound awesome? nope it doesn't but it is quiet, tame and does what most people need it to do. the irony is that it still sounds better than most crap people throw on their cars.

As to the fart cannons I think a good quality pre-silencer is key, at least with a header. I would imagine it would be with the stock manifold as well. I currently have some used fart cannons I got off Ebay on there as the welds on the HKS finally rusted and it was falling apart. It's too loud for my taste but tonally it sounds good. The front half is Racing Beat stuff.

Ya,straight pipe is just downright annoying.
A Header,presilencer and a muffler are a decent setup for an N/A.
Downpipe, resonator and a Muffler for Turbo.
