Need help removing the exhaust heat shield

Hey. I have an 87 GXL and I am working on installing a racing beat header. I have removed the bolts/nuts on the side and the bottom of the shield and have managed to remove the bottom half of the shield. I can't seem to get the top half off, it feels like something else is holding it on.

I have looked at the FSM and there doesn't seem like there is anything else holding it. Am I missing something? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Ha I am trying... it will rock, but i cant get it to slide out. The O2 sensor has been removed as well. Should I just remove the 6 ports and be done with it?

Has anyone managed to get it without pulling the actuators? I really do not want to take them off.

Just remove the two nuts on each actuator... then pull straight off... very easy to do... don't be afraid.

Leave it on. I just installed my header on Thursday and you can get the manifold off with it still attached no problem. There's one bolt right on top that'll be pretty much impossible to get to without some dissasembly of the intake, but like I said, it's not necessary to remove it, so save yourself the trouble and leave it be.

Especially since Mazda loves to put unnecessary things on our car.

Get a long extension and a flashlight and undo it. That's how I got mine off. Took about 15 mins. Don't forget to blast the nuts with some wd-40/penetrating lube.
