Not to be an *** but the best thing you can do is buy a haynes manual...It is your bible when swapping motors, stock to stock anyways......Seriously break down and spend the $14...you wont regret it.. good luck.

both are same, 86-88=s4 89-91=s5. Short is just the 5 housings, front cover, oil pan. Long is everything else tacked on.

Check kevin landers site at:

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/

under 'tech. He has pretty good write-ups on how to remove emgine, tear it down to short block form, etc.

Also, what's involved in putting s4 engine into s5 car and vice-versa.

Also,
you can check the engine removal procedure by scathcart:

http://www.rotaryinnovation.com/tech_list[1].htm

The FSM is kinda vague in this area. I was checking it last night for wiring harness info but it only said hook everything back up! hmmm well if I knew where I would.

Is the Haynes good?
I've got some Checker manual which was sooo crappy it had info on the 323/626/and then the RX in it! It also fell apart the first week I owned it.
