Question crank angle sensor noisy

I just rebuilt my 87TII. I got it running and now I have a noise thumpimg, tick, knocking noise comming fromt the crank angle sensor. I have checked the timing hundred times over and have it dead on from what I can tell with a timing light. Also the car falls on its face at 2500 rpms and backfires but starts running againg when I let off. any help would be great . Just ask if you need more info. Oh it does not fall on its face at idle just when driving. And the noise is all the time.

Are you sure the noise is from the CAS? Remove it and check for play in the shaft. I can't recall ever seeing one worn out.

I have removed it to check for shaft play did feel any even changed the sensor out. I have 3 CAS. 2 turbo and 1 nonturbo not sure if there is a difference in the sensors. I can put a stethascope in different places on the engine and dont hear anything but when i got to the CAS it is there and i can feel it with my hand on the sensor. The noise will change if i push on the sensor. Think mabey the CAS drive gear behind the front cover , "IF'' installed backwards could make it do that? pretty sure i put it in right BUT ?? If it was backwards would it run? Thanks

The car would run if the gear is backwards, but I don't know how well. I don't have one in front of me to swap and see the effect on the position of the teeth.

The noise you hear may be coming from the oil pump chain?

Hold two of the cas drive gears together and with the keyways aligned. Look at them. Then turn one around and hold them together. No difference worth noting. Other than the champfer on one side of the hole.

I suggest pullig your front cover off and finding out which of the torrington bearings fell down.

Better and in the FSM a method the never gets mentioned in this forum. PUll the hub pulley bolt out. Measure the distance b/t the face of the eccentric shaft and the face of the hub. The place the eccentric shaft bolt rests. The figure is in the FSM in the ENGINE section. The sectiion where you assy a engine.

Cool Sounds Good Honestly When I Tried Putting The Engine The First Time I Broke The Eccentric Pulley Hub And Replaced The Key On It And After I Pulled It Out To Rebuild It I Found One Torrington Bearing Crushed And Fallen Apart If I Need To Ask You Again About The Measurement Could You Clarify It ? Im Gonna Take It Apart This Weekend And See. Thanks

Oh Yeah Think That Could Cause Ignition Issues ? My Car Cant Rev Past 2500 Under Load With Out Backfiring In The Exhaust, But I Do Have 3" Downpipe And Exhaust? Fuel Cut ??? I Just Got A Fcd But Have Not Instaled It? Ne Ways Ill Get Back You You When I Get This Apart. Thanks

Download ENGINE

Go to page 1-67

Read the words that go with the picture of the hub/eccentric shaft and mention 0.0961 MAX

Latest update took it all apart last night well front cover and stuff and found one bearing behind the stationary gear plate ? The one closest to the motor was burned up and flat? Also the cover was chewed up pretty bad. Think I set the endshaft play to tight? can I use a bearing , and gear plate from a 12a they fit perfect? And I have a 12a I got last week for free sounds good to me someone chime in before i go to the dealer to get some gaskets please. Im gonna get them to cross reference the part numbers but sometimes that done mean anything. i also noticed my oil smells like gas? Think the end play way too loose causing the side seals to let the gas leak through? I also fouled spark plugs real bad few weeka ago and it flooded real bad could that cause the gas smell??? Any info would be great also any know where a write up is on porting the stock s4 turbo?
thanks

I ALIGN THE E SHAFT PULLEY MARKS. AND ALIGN THE CAS MARKS ? WHEN I PUT IT IN AND START IT ACCORDING TO MY TIMING LIGHT I CAN GET THE MARK AND THE POINTER ON THE COVER TO LINE UP BUT I CANT ADJUST PAST IT??? IS THAT NORMAL? LIKE THE SENSOR IS MAXXED OUT? ANYONE KNOW WHAT IM DOING WRONG??? ALSO THE CAR FALLS FLAT ON ITS FACE AT 2500 RPMS? ON MY LAST TRY LASTNIGHT I SET IT AND DIDNT EVEN SEE THE ESHAFT MARKS ON THE PULLEY ??? LIKE IT WAS 180 OUT? BUT RUNNING! I DID REPLACE THE PULLEY HUB A WHILE BACK WITH ONE FROM A NONTURBO USED THE OLD PULLEYS? i WENT TO A SPEED SHOP HERE AND THEY SOLD IT TO ME SAID THERE SHOULD BE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE PULLEY HUB FOR TURBO OR NONTURBO????
