Coolant under UIM?
Coolant under UIM?
Hey guys, well awhile back I posted something about white smoke coming out of the exhaust only when boosting and not letting the car warmup. Well, I think I found a symptom. As I was putting my fmic, i put it up on jacks (the front end) and had my car on the jacks for about a day a half to 2. And I noticed a drip under the car. Small puddle. But it is antifreeze. So I searched the engine, and found a puddle under the UIM. I also noticed the antifreeze drip down the block to my manifold, which is probably where the antifreeze seeps through and makes me shoot white smoke. Anyway, I was wandering if there are any coolant lines under the UIM??? Or is there anything else that can cause a leak under the UIM?

White smoke? SMOKE OR STEAM? SMOKE is oil I believe, but there is a coolant line that runs from the back of the water pump to the BAC on a nonturbo, probably something similar there on a TII, reach behind the radiator cap and feel for a 5/8 inch hose, mine developed a pinhole and started squirting coolant out in the higher rpms..BTW, ripping this off is okay if you are running a strip car but for a daily driver it is needed (second-hand info from aaron cake)
if the coolant is puddling up where the block meets the LIM, it's the coolant o-ring inside the lower intake manifold.
i had this same problem in one of my FC's. apparently it is fairly common for those orings to expand and kink, letting the coolant out. unfortunately you will need to remove the turbo and LIM to replace this and it's not fun

^that would make the steam heavy enough to look like smoke, that may be your prob....
but you have to make sure its steam and not smoke still- I worked on this 93 twin turbo that was dumping oil in the intake and it was a fog machine, Pure white Smoke..am I right guys?

Well, it doesnt continusly dump white smoke. It only smokes when I dont let my car warmup long enough and I boost it when not warmed up. Other than that, it doesnt smoke when warmup-ed properly. Do you still think that could be the problem. I can see the antifreeze drip down the side of my block to the manifold...
