Caught my Pulsation Dampner

EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK THEIRS

Pull off the plastic cap and make sure the screw is still in. Look what I found on mine

AS you can see the screw fell out and was probably leaking. The car did have a VERY strong fuel smell, FYI.

Luckily the engine is bieng rebuilt and I caught this after deciding to inspect it after reading a bunch of horror stories.

the screw falling out does not mean your PD is leaking. It's a common problem with the S4 PD's. When people start screwing the screws back in and cranking down on them that's what tears the rubber in the PD and makes it leak. Good job catching it while you got your motor apart....if you're looking to upgrade your fuel system I recommend you check out RETed's site (www.fc3s-pro.com) and look at his picture of the parallel fuel rail system.

Yea I used some water to see if its leaking or not, it wasnt. BUt of course, it might under pressure I dunno.

Is it safe to just put the screw back in? how far and how tight should it go?

DON'T put it back in. You could easily tear the diaphragm and CAUSE it to leak.

IMHO everyone with a S4 should replace the PD with a banjo bolt (Earls Part #997591). If you check out RETed's page you can see from the animated gifs why the screw falling out has nothing to do with making the PD leak. http://fc3s-pro.com/TECH/FAQ/pd.htm

Just to be on the safe side im gonna replace it.

The car reeked of gasoline before and the end cap (the yellow plastic thing) had obviously been exposed to gasoline. The car wasnt very well taken care of either.
