who has rebuilt a turbo

I am wondering if anyone has rebuilt or upgraded their turbo themselves? I have a spare turbo apart right now and need some help.

Thanks, Ed

Did you upgrade or just rebuild?

I can't get the two housings apart from the cartridge. It looks pressed in how do I seperate them.

Also once I seperate them how do I get the nut on top of the compressor fins off? I tried to get the nut off, but it is floating now (seems stripped or something). Now the top wheel spins free (the nut is a bit losse, but won't come off).

Don't know if you searched yet but I remember a thread a month or so back that was a "how to" for rebuilding your own turbo.
I'll see if I can find it

ed. use a hammer to break the housings free from the cartridge. Also try some heat from a torch.

I don't know much about turbo's but I'm trying to learn with this spare before I mess with my rx7 turbo.
Another question, when you get your turbo "upgraded" which parts are replaced. I included a pic of a turbo that's number part by part. If you could refence this when you explain it would help.

Also how do you get the nut off the compressor wheel? The pic I included the nut I'm asking about is number 11.
