Car won't start or build oil pressure

I drive an 86 gxl and while driving home last night all guages looked great and the car was running perfect, then out of nowhere the engine died and the oil pressure quickly dropped to zero even though the car was still moving and in gear. Now when cranking the car it doesnt start and the oil pressure doesn't move from zero. Any ideas?

welcome to the board.

the car was running then it wasn't ... so i would say start by checking for fuel. you can get a copy of the FSM here: Foxed.ca

check the pump. if the pump is good, check for fuel at the injectors.

thats what it seems like, do you think the oil pressure should be a cause for concern though?

Baby steps. Jump the yellow connector under the hood, passenger side. It's the only yellow connector under in the engine bay.

Turn key on.

Confirm that your pump is running.

Post results.

Can you confirm that the new pump turns on with a jumper in the yellow connector and key ON? Just to make sure on our end.

well, you'll want to start by checking that what the gauge is showing you is correct. check the sender and the connection there.

if your gauge turns out to be telling the truth, then you probably have a leak at the front cover o-ring/seal.

Glad to hear you got it running. Let's hope your oil pressure issue is just the sensor.
