Help! No Oil Pressure... Did I Grenade My Engine?

Alright, this morning there was a commercial thing for Elk Performance that I was told to go to and I did. The car was fine before this. Then I go to do a donut and I do about 30 seconds worth at about 7K RPMs. Anyway, so I park and then leave it for about two hours. Anyway, I start it up again and it wouldn't start. I have it all the way cranked and it is going up to about 400 RPMs, but no further, I tried flooring the gas but that did nothing. After my hand still cranking it and it being at 400, it sputters to a start. Anyway, so I drive back with no problems for about 10 miles. I park it, then leave it for about 1/2 hour. I come back and drive it, and from here, the oil pressure bounces from 0in/lb2 to 15in/lb2... pretty much that is the way it is for the rest of my trip home (45 minutes)... it would drive fine and the coolant level was even, but my oil pressure would always bounce between 0-15... please help me! Thanks soooo much!

You have two options with the oil pressure sender:

1. Remove and clean it (use carb cleaner or something similar). Make sure the connectors are cleaned off as best as you can.

2. Replace it.

If option #1 doesn't help, you only have option #2.

Does your car currently start and drive fine other than the oil pressure reading funny?

If it only stalled once, don't worry about it until it happens again or becomes a reoccurring event.

Check the oil pressure sender and see if that takes care of your gauge readings. If you have/want to replace it, I believe they are around $100 from Mazda but I can't remember exactly.

Louis, your oil pressure would not actually be fluctuating like that. It's impossible. If it would make you feel better, check the physical pressure, but it won't be fluctuating like you described. Take a sigh of relief.

If you're talking about the OEM pressure gauge, I wouldn't worry about it. The pressure sensor is what you should be looking at. It's a common complaint.

FYI, the pressure sensor will not affect how the car runs. All it does is give a signal for the gauge. It doesn't even connect to the ECU.

When I saw champagne bubbles in my coolant I thought my motor was gone. I went through the same set of feelings.
