no oil pressure after car dies?

i went to pull out of a parking lot and my car died, then it would not start and it was building only about 10lbs of pressure while cranking.popped the hood to find the oil cap missing? could that cause the car to build bareley any pressure and cause the car to not start?

the car won't have much pressure while cranking, ~10lbs is normal for cranking pressure. i would reinstall the cap and be sure your oil level is topped off and try and restart the car, you may have just flooded it somehow.

DUDE, No Your oil cap and your displayed oil preasure have nothing to do with eachother. Unless you have very little oil and the pickup is not submerged. The other thing is low oil preasure in its self will not cause the car not to start. Maybe overtime if the bearing surfaces were totally hit. It seems like your oil preasure has very little to do with your over all problem. I can not remeber what oil preasure should be at 300 rpms but I'm guessing 10lbs is probably right. At idle your preasure should be above 30 lbs and then under throttle load at higher rpms the preasure should be over 70lbs and on some engines with different regulators 90-100-110lbs its all relative to the regulator.
