Can't shift into reverse or 5th

Transmission was was shifting fine. Took it out to replace clutch. Now after re-installing the transmission I can't shift into reverse/5th.

What should I look for?

You need to remove the little inspection cover off the side of the shifter housing. Hop under your car and pull that cover off, it's 4 bolts. See if there's something jammed in there from when you removed your shifter. It'll be kind of hard to see though, so shift into 4th gear before pulling that cover off.

If that doesn't work, on the other side there are a couple detents and springs you can pop out too. On the back of the extension housing, there is a little bolt. Remove it, but be careful because there's a ball and spring behind it. Next, on the driver's side, remove the 2 bolts holding on a very small end plate. Again, there's a spring and detent behind it. Look in there for anything funky.

Thanks, I really appreciate the info. I'll check those things tomorrow.

BTW: Everything was replaced, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, disk, pressure plate, rear trans seal, new gear oil.

Trash in the shifter. The plastic shims/bearings is the trash.

Then again, it could be the syncros.

EDIT; Then again, if it were syncros, that would mean you could double clutch it into fifth gear. I wouldn't try that with reverse though. humor

It shouldn't be the syncros. I can't even move the shifter past the rev/5th lockout.

But I'll definitely check for trash. Be nice if it was trash.

if you dont see any bits of bushing blockin it then this would be the next thing to check, seems to happen alot when the shifter gets jarred around, but you most likely took the shift lever out so there would be the room for it to pop outta place, its alittle spring loaded piston with a knotch and then a spring loaded ball bearing that should be sittin in the groove, it puts pressure on the shift lever but if it pop outta place will block out 5th/rev
