Does anyone have a clue as to why my new transmission locks me out of third gear only? All other gears shift like butter and no noises associated in the operation of the transmission. Just looking for ideas here.

 

I'm no pro and run about 35 seconds flat in the quater mile, but, I've had a problem getting in fourth gear a couple of times and it was caused by the plastic shims under the shifter crumbling and messing things up. Cleaned that shift hole out and got fourth gear again. Ah heck, fifth gear was the gear, not fourth.

Plastic shims may be the wrong wording.

Yepo.. I am gonna go fish around that place right now. Will report results.

 

Mine happened all of a sudden and wouldn't shift into any gear. Pulled off on the side of the road and found those "shims" that HAILERS was talking about were messing up the works down there. Pulled 'em out and was fine.

 

i had a hand time with third gear it would always want to jump to fifth.

Bushings fixed it
