IIRC, I think one of the issues on yours I didn't catch (honestly wasn't aware of it at the time) was when switching from the DOS to Halwin software the Trigger Edge changes from Falling to Rising, creating the problem with the 'blip' yours had. Can't recall if you had anything else that was weird or not. I do agree though about replacing the 4-core trigger wiring; I'm doing that on this build and am swapping back over to MSD 8509 boxes.

The last photos of the engine on the stand. Everything's on. I repainted the special grade-a ninja modded barbeque black pulleys and went with a gloss black. The three pulleys are from a 10 year old set of Atkins aircraft pulleys that I mucked up a few years ago when I left them in a caustic cleaner for too long. I had to hit all three of them with some emory cloth to get the old paint off and try and minimize the "dimples" left in the aluminum when it began to dissolve. Oops.

Took the turbo off and took it to my fabricator buddy to weld in the EGT bungs. Alternator and water pump housing is on. New water pump painted gray this time. By the way, for those getting new water pumps and are uppity about engine bay aesthetics, be sure to paint them or they'll rust nearly immediately. Happened to my last one.

There are two changes - Trail plugs and reverting back to the MSD's per a hall trigger input to the Haltech like I've already said. Obviously I'd have to replace a chunk of the 4-core trigger wiring to do this. Nothing else on the hardware is changed and that's on purpose because I'd like to try and track down the issue that caused the previous two engine to bust dowel lands. I have my guesses (both being plugs and possibly trigger interference). You can call that a "horrible way to troubleshoot" (or however you characterised it) but I call it "safe" not to mention "convenient" when it's something I can do right now (with the car still down) instead of later when I'm down the road beating the crap out of the thing and crossing my fingers. Given that I normally go wild when I do a motor change on this car, this one is surprisingly un-changed.

also why use AI and what is that exactly? does the car really need that stuff or is a rotary only thing? this looks like some high end work and pioneering research and development, you do seem very capable love to read more about it

 

Break 500 to the wheels with no intercooler using alcohol and pump gas.

It's my lame attempt at giving a name to the bridgeport spec I do for my customers.

AI is Auxiliary Injection, the term Howard Coleman and I coined which then became the name of the subforum on here that discusses all things alcohol and water injection.

I've done my share of porting ( 2-stroke GP bikes) and your work looks first class.
Especially the water passage work...if you did that by hand, I'm in awe.

 

You took this picture before you beveled the leading edge of the port, right? That looks like damn near a 90* angle from port to iron face.

 

That would have to trap 135mph in a FC you think? (surely over 130mph even driving Miss Daisy?).

It is almost 90*. I basically replicated the ports the older motor had when it was built in early 2007. I don't do the closing edge square like that anymore but since I didn't want to march too far off from what I was originally doing I just copied what I had.

Did I just read no Intercooler? wtf? man that will detonate like a **** wont it?

Dyno's are meant to be pretty easy on cars, we see supra queens all the time with xyz ridiculous numbers then they say if I put it on the strip it would not last the 1/4 mile would no IC and AI fit in that same boat? have you tested this yet or are you still working it all out? I kinda asked this in the AI thread but better to hit you up here since you are doing it in your build and seem to have all the answers on what to do and what not to do, cheers.

Works just fine. There's a thread that's 'bout a year and a half old or so called "What Intercooler?" in that same Aux Injection section. Go check it out. It's the chronicled story of the hot-air experiment on this same car I started. I'll post up a picture of the engine bay as it was prior to it cracking the back plate so you can see it. I know it seems crazy on the surface but it works.

ok now this is insane and awesome in so many ways. im not very good with tuning but i know that the lc1 innovate motorsports AFR computer can be programmed using the supplied software to change it to meth or other injection types. the one question i have after reading these 4 pages is can this be driven daily. i know its a bridgeport and i know its got crazy injection but can u drive it everyday if u wished?

I don't really see how this pinning is any different then any other - outside of only placing them on one side of the engine.

Maybe this pin job is designed to restore the housing strength lost by removing the support webbing at the combustion face?

 

On the one hand it's less intrusive, On the other, it's more holes machined. I don't really have a good answer, Joe. It just seemed like a neat idea to try and I've not really liked the idea of traditional dowel pinning. Seems too invasive. I like the idea of the shorter pins in multiple locations. Hopefully it'll produce positive results. I waited this long to rebuild this engine because of this pinning so it'd better be worth it.

Hopefully I can get it in the car this weekend. Depends on whether or not I'm done with another project here first, though. I don't have much to do: wire up the 2nd EGT power and probe, wire up the wideband to switched +12v, wire in the MSD boxes, and make a replacement front oil cooler line. Pretty easy. Two days of working on it and it ought to be running.
