Is it bad..

My temp gauge never reads more than a little above the bottom, about 1/4 of its length. Should it be in the middle of the temperature guage, between hot and cold, because it never gets there. Is it a thermostat problem, or is that just normal?

From what I've seen, on earlier years 1/4 is normal, on later years like my 91 half is normal. As long as it's not overheating, you're good.

My 88 runs at anywhere from 1/4-1/2 and like 9/16... a little more than a half but not a whole lot. No problems on it though...

Ive got an 87 NA, and from my experience, anything much about 1/3 is bad news. Unfortunately, Ive found that out first hand. My car died of over heating (cracked housing) at an impressive 215K. Note to self... fan clutches are important.

88 that will NOT climb past 1/4

My e-fan makes sure of that (clutch went out, so did engine-driven fan )
