Is it bad..

My temp gauge never reads more than a little above the bottom, about 1/4 of its length. Should it be in the middle of the temperature guage, between hot and cold, because it never gets there. Is it a thermostat problem, or is that just normal?

mine is at like 3/8 most of the time my buddies is was at like 1/8 it was interesting, but it's normal so i'm told

temp

most jap cars the temp gauge will read about 1/3 from the bottum with a actuel temp of 180 , But it is always good to check it , a heat gun , temp prob , some thing

I have an 87 base, and if its normal, thats cool, I just wanted to make sure my car is ok.

mine always runs at 3/8-1/2 i guess it just depends on the way peeps drive them!!

thats normal, mine is at 1/4 most of the time, its an 86 sport

From what I've seen, on earlier years 1/4 is normal, on later years like my 91 half is normal. As long as it's not overheating, you're good.

My 88 runs at anywhere from 1/4-1/2 and like 9/16... a little more than a half but not a whole lot. No problems on it though...

Ive got an 87 NA, and from my experience, anything much about 1/3 is bad news. Unfortunately, Ive found that out first hand. My car died of over heating (cracked housing) at an impressive 215K. Note to self... fan clutches are important.

88 that will NOT climb past 1/4

My e-fan makes sure of that (clutch went out, so did engine-driven fan )

well this is all godd information to know, in the summer, the engine got to a hlaf, and the transmission overheated. Then i ahd a bearing blow up in it a week later, no more of taht transmission.
