Question Any diff from 89 - 1990 onwards

Besides trims and wheels/spoiler kits.... any mechanical differences from an 1989 compared to an 1990 - 1991?

Anything that would make you look more for an 90 than an 89? Ie, did Mazda make some much better reliable parts of something on the later s5s?

I read the what did my Fc come with thread. Just wanted an general consensus.

not to my knowledge......all s5 parts are interchangable...... the only year that has anything different compared to others (to my knowledge) is the 1988 1/2....... the injectors had different plugs than the rest

note...this is reference to usdm cars, dont know about jdm

LOL....less rust.

Ok, the reason I ask is I have a conflicting situation. I have purchased a 1990 JDM s5, but just spotted a red 1989 JDM GT-R that is much cheaper and looks to be better cond inside with slightly less on the oddo.

Im in the US, so if I had a chance at a GT-R, I would probably jump on it. I love those older ones too.

I don't really understand why you are asking the difference in FC model years though, you are comparing two completely different cars in this situation. Wouldn't it just be a matter of which car you like better?

Different cars? you think so? how is the GT-R older than the 1990? (apart from year of manuf) GT-R's are bad?

Body wise they are almost identical (apart from Black vs Red). 89 has 10,000 less km, and better trim seats. Apart from that, there isn't much in it. Maybe I will buy both.

Hmm, nevermind me, I think I am misunderstanding you. Are you talking about an 89 Skyline GT-R? If not, just ignore everything I just said...so confused, I need to go to sleep.

It's labeled as a GT-R from the importer.. It's a JDM. I too wasn't sure if that was right.

I amazes me how this crap gets repeated again and again...

GTR and GTX are JDM trim levels for both S4 and S5 FC's. They are nothing to do with the cars age or mechanical spec.

FYI, the JDM model range from bottom to top was GT, GTX, GTR, GT Limited, Cabriolet (aka Convertible) and Infini.

you couldn't get a limited slip in 91 coupes, or are we just talking about engines here?

mine is a 91 and had a lsd rearend in it when i bought it (since been converted to a turbo drivetrain)! not saying its original, but there were no modifications to the car when i purchased it, and it seemed to be original

note...... im not stupid, i know the difference between a lsd and a non lsd rearend.....it even had the "limited slip gear oil only" tag on it still........(that was for the few people that i know were going to give a stupid remark about whether im sure it was an lsd or not)
