All of a sudden 18psi????

I just started up my car this morning on my normal drive to work and I push the gas in a litte bit and my boost gauge goes all the way to 18 psi, Its a stock s5 turbo with a fcd, and its never done this before. Also, every once in a while i will hear a ping and then black smoke will shoot out of the tailpipe. I was wondering if there is any meaning for this? Thanks

Why do you have an FCD on a stock car?

well 18psi, but did u feel the increase of power?? (if u didn't feel ALOT of power increase, maybe your boost gauge is busted? ^_^ just a guess)
what is your average pressure? mine stock one was like .3 bars.... or ~6psi
my manual says it should go to .5 bars.... so 8psi??

drunken, (sorry if i sound stupid) but don't boost creep go up SOMEWHAT slowly?
spikes can go high, but from stock supposedly .5 bars to 1.05 bars (.55 bars increase or .5 bars=8.5 psi so roughly.....10psi increase) sounds a little freaky...

You hose that goes to the from the wastegate to the actuator might have busted or come off. Make sure that it is still intact. It is the steel line that goes around the turbo, but has a rubber hose on each end. I think on the S5, it also has a line that goes to some sort of boost sensor, check that too.

JOb security at it's finest...

Check your wastegate vacuum line from the compressor housing. And your type R boost gauge. You don't have supporting mods for more than ~12, so be careful with that.

He mentioned a stock S5 TII with only a FCD. Would the wastegate vac line going bad cause that big of a spike?

It dosn't matter if it is stock or modded, if that lines pops off your gonna hit full boost.
