Why is it that, sometimes, when I hit my brakes, the pedal feels very hard, and they don't work very well?

 

Interesting, i have never heard of that happening only everynow and then. Usually when your brake pedal is hard to push, its the brake booster. But first, check the banjo bolt that comes off of the back of the lower intake manifold. Just trace your vaccum line going from the break booster to the LIM. Pull the bolt out and it will probably have a bunch of carben build up.

Where is the brakebooster?

 

Right behind and attached to the master brake cylinder. It is on the driver's side and it is that big, black, round looking thing.

yeah make sure that your brake master cylinder is connected (via a 3/8ths i think air hose) to your intake manifold by the firewall. it definitely sounds like that could be the problem, however if it were disconnected you'd have one nasty vaccum leak and your car probably wouldnt idle... dunno, but check it out

 

Well, it does idle..........just at 3K lol, maybe that's my prob.

 

Also make sure that the vaccum line is in good shape. It might be colapsing under vaccum causing it only to happen ocasionally(sp)
