Air pump comparison

I am doing the TID mod on my car, and have a problem with my air pump...that is, it gets in the way of my 3" 45deg bend. I hear the Japanese ones allow it to BAIRLY fit, so what is the difference between the two? Will a J-Spec air pump directly swap into my 86-88 TII?

I need to keep my air pump for now because I have a high-flow cat, and I can't get rid of it until I have enough money to buy fuel upgrades...but really, is the airpump actually nessary?

Michael

Yes If you plan to keep your cat on their you will need to leave the air pump on because without it your cat will clog up.

ya it won't fit with a 3" pipe. I think you can make a 2.5" one. the J-spec air pumps are smaller. they should fit one yours.

I run a cat with no pump no problem. the cat will last longer..... needing the pump is another rotary myth. it just won't work very well without the airpump. you won't pass a test.

mike - I dont know if you've seen the way I did my TID but I think mine would have gone around the stock pump and its 3". Also if youre worried about fuel (which you probably should be) then I wouldnt mess with the TID mod b/c when I did it I noticed quite an increase in boost. BTW, the rotors are ready to go in and Im going to start putting the housings together tomorrow. I'll be at the shop doing it if you want to stop by and see the porting and all that before it goes back together.

While that is true Chris, boost will go up some, I still have my cat, and I run rich also...I should be just fine...but I'm going to rewire my fuel pump anyway.

The only thing I'm worried about at this point is the water pump...I'm going to need to get a dual pully for my alternator, but I have an FD pulley...even harder to find.

So, I need a J-Spec air pump if ANYONE knows where to get one.

BTW- Chris, remember my car wouldn't idle before? Well, there's a split about 1/4 wide and about 2.5" long at the base of my TID...I HAVE to do something about it. We'll see tomarrow, I've got RTV on it right now till I can find a J-Spec air pump.

No, I was saying, if I removed my airpump I would have to get a dual alternator pulley.

Anyways, its tight, but I got it to fit just fine...I am looking for a coupler for my BOV to the check valve right now...I think I'll have to buy one...but its ALMOST done...thats the last step
