Smile 929 Afm

Alright, so my '87 TII AFM is bad. I've just ordered an 88-89 929 AFM to replace it. Anyone know of any problems that might arise from using this?

RX-7 AFM = $98.00
929 AFM = $35.00 shipped

Somebody did a 929 AFM conversion, but I was under the impression that it only worked on S5's. There's a long thread about this, do a search. A lot of it is full of bitching and stuff though.

PM Smoken' about an s4 T2 AFM.

Yeah, I looked over that thread, and it looked like the guy was putting a 90-something 929 plunger-type AFM in his S5. The year model I bought is a flapper type as used on the S4, same pinout and connector, so it should be more or less plug and play. I will probably have to modify the TID or something to fit it, but I should be able to rig up something temporary to get it running in the mean time.

Why are you switching again? Does it really do alot of good or could you just not find a AFM?

My current AFM appears to be faulty (I put the motor in the car a couple of weeks ago and have been troubleshooting on the weekends.) I don't have a spare flapper type AFM, and I can't afford a replacement RX-7 AFM at the moment, but the 929 one I found is more affordable. The flapper type 929 unit I found has the same connection as the one i currently have, so I'm thinking that with the exception of some mild fabrication, it should be a plug and play type situation when it arrives.

I would, but I've already ordered the 929 AFM, but if I can't get it to work, I'll send you a message.

Sureshot has a write up on the 929 AFM conversion, but he did it on his S5, so you may have to read up about an S5 AFM conversion first.

But sureshot has a writeup on the 929 swap.
