87 T2 Project

Well i got a 1987 turbo 2 about a month ago. i paid $1400 for it with 168k on the clock. it has 90psi on both rotors. the car ran fine but the paint is pealing. and there are a couple of exterior dents. the interior is in ok shape but is really dirty. the usual stuff is broken(triangle vents and radio surroind).

When i drove the car it boosted fine and pulled much better than my N/A. but it started to hesitate around 5k-6k. i wasnt sure what the problem was. so i took off the UIM and got to the secondary injectors and pulled them off as well as the primary injectors and sent them to get cleaned. but one of them is leaking. so that might have been causeing the problem but not sure yet becuase its all apart.

Well since this car isnt a daily driver yet i decided to take off the LIM and Turbo. when i did this i cleaned the UIM LIM TB and TB elbow. i did the TB mod at this time also. i painted these all with a dark silver color(pics below). with the turbo off i am in the process of porting the wastegate. while i have the turbo off i looked at the exhaust manifold and found that it was cracked pretty bad. so i bought a used one for $50 from a guy on the forum. i also cleaned the turbo. i took off the compressor housing and cleaned it with some carb cleaned to shine it up all nice. with the turbo all apart i tried to spin the wheel and it was very hard to move. i wasnt sure what it was, because while the housing where around the wheel it moved freely. so i took the turbo wheel apart and it was loaded with carbon. so im going to clean all that stuff out. but while i have this all apart should i rebuild the turbo? the car has 168k on it but not sure about the turbo, because a bolt on the manifold was a different size from the rest. so i think someone has messed with it before.

pics coming

well rebuilding the turbo isn't as difficult as some may think just make sure that you do it patiently and pay attention to detail and you can rebuild your turbo without too much difficulty!

the damn damn a/c is a b!tch to take off when you car has a bent rad and oil cooler

damn grease that clunks up is so hard to get off. anything i should use to get it off other than engine degreaser?

alright cool ill try some brake cleaner tommorow. will carb cleaner eat it up? i just wanan get it all clean while i can.

also i ordered a RB downpipe, safc, 720cc injectors on monday. and the injectors are here. yay!!! i even got them tested to make sure they work as 720cc and they do. today i also cleaned the carbon off of the turbo. im letting the turbo parts soak in carb cleaner. dont work, not the whole turbo, just the front wheel, and the 2 cup like things by the exhaust wheel. none of these have seals on them so i assumed the would be ok.

more feedback please you guys! i know its not much right now but its getting there.

well the last couple of days ive been painting parts. today i put some of them on to see how it looks.

so what do you guys think of it so far?

also today i was trying to put my turbo back together, and i noticed that the exhaust wheel hit the housign when it turns now. so it spins like **** now. is this because one of the fins got bent? i dont know whats going on.
