86 oil pan question for conversion

ok i have a 1986 rx7 GXL that i am converting to turbo, so obviously i need to make a drain for the oil from the turbo to the oil pan right? my question is...will an 87 turbo oil pan fit onto my car so that i can use the oil tap that it has on it? or would i be better off tapping my own oil pan to make the oil drain? i am using a stock 87 turbo for this conversion any help would be greatly appreciated

there's no difference between N/A and TII oil pans... no turbo oil drain. the turbo oil drain for a TII is located just under the OMP. N/A's do not have the hole on the front cover.

so then would i be able to put a turbo II front cover on my engine? or would it be easiest to just remove my oil pan and tap it for the turbo??

I would swap front covers, but since you're fairly new (atleast to the forum) you may want to try installing a drain into the oil pan first, on an extra oil pan... There's a member here named Aaron Cake, he has a better walk through for turboing an N/A.

Main breakdown:

More of what you're looking for:

Hope this helps

well technically the oil pan drain is wrong, the oil will block the passage at times and that is not good for the turbo which may and likely will cause premature carbon seal failure and oil smoking from the turbo. my suggestion is to swap the front cover with one off a TII for your series engine.

You can also drill and tap the front cover, or if you have access to a TIG welder, you can weld in a bung.
