At least it would be easy to find someone willing to trade you the parts.

I just did a 4 lug to five lug convertion and did a write up for it. I can sell you all the suff for cheap if you want it. And if you follow my write up backwords it will work.

That 4 lug stuff is garbage. Why would you want to do this? The brakes are terrible.

+400 million, why downgrade to 4 lugs, and inferior brakes???????? You prefer worse braking and a lamer selection of wheels?

Honestly I like the selection of 4 lug wheels better than 5, and I can upgrade rotors and what not so braking ability is not an issue.

are you daft?
to get pretty wheels you sacrificing a much better braking system. the 4 piston 5 lug setup is far superior to the single pot 4 lug wheels. GET ADAPTER PLATES!!!!!!!
there are tons of wheels, TONS that fit the Fc and look great . . .
but by all means its your car, have fun not stopping though

Those 4 lug calipers are very bad units. My first seven was a 4 lug 87 and i seized and otherwise destroyed calipers at least one every 4 months. I also warped rotors and glazed brake pads from regular driving. Seriously that stuff is terrible.

First off, the rear calipers between 4 and 5 lug cars are identical, save the 5 lug ones been a titch wider.
No advantage there in street driving.

The single piston calipers aren't bad, not even close. I would bet that the majority of you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between both systems, given equal pads and rotors, in street driving if no one told you.

The base brake setup is fine for ordinary and/or mildly "spirited" driving; way better than terrible. I have them in my '90 GTU and they've served well enough for many years. I've never had any problems with heavy rotor wear, glazed pads, etc. However, whenever I've driven a car with the four piston setup, you do notice a difference in terms of slightly shorter stopping distances.

Scathcart, aren't the 5-lug rear brakes (in S4 cars or S5s with 4-piston front brakes) also vented versus solid rotors? You'd think that would be an improvement in terms of fade.

BZZZZ.

From alot of experience I can say they are quite different systems. The 5-lug 4 piston front vented rear setup is far superior to the non-vented 4 lug or even the single piston 5 lug.

My grandmother could tell the difference on the street (and she is dead!). I can tell the difference on the track because I like having brakes going into turn one at 140.

Also there is a big difference between the 90GTU brakes and the S4 4lug setups. The 5lug single piston is like having a big brake kit compared with the 4-lug.

The biggest difference is in the heat disipation of the 4lug vs the 4piston in the front and the vented vs non-vented in the rear. And the vented rear setups have calipers with far superior heat dispation. Sure the pad size is the same but the whole setup disipates heat far better. FAR from identical.

I read some where many years ago that the 4 lug was a carried over 323 setup to save costs.

There's also more aftermarket rims available for 5 lugs.

Yes, all 4piston front setups came with vented rears. All the rotors are the same diameter on all the 5 lug cars, the difference is only the front and rear calipers and the the rear rotors. The front rotors on all 5 lug cars are the exact same part.

No, the 5-lug base setup isnt that bad. But there is a very noticable difference, especially in brake fade and stopping power vs the vented/4piston setup.

I'm not planing on auto-x'ing or anything like that so stopping on a dime isn't all that important. Plus i'm planning on doing the rears so the front's will be the same. I know my plans sound stupid but...whatever.
