Infinity Basslink
yeah, i'm all about self powered units. small, light, and easily removable.

So did you opt for the basslink or basslink II ? The basslink II has 50watts more over the basslink. I am getting one for my systers small cab truck, but was not sure how big of a difference 50 watts makes

i'm surprised that no one else posted with this, but i took out the stock hatch speakers and replaced the old 6.5s with 8" kicker free airs. i ran the wires under the careting and mounted the amp behind the seat for a really clean instal. i'll try to get a pic up soon, but its nice and light weight and hits hard enough to round out the bass nicely. i don't wanna have the lloudest system i'd rather have the fastest car. lol

Unless, like me, you have a can of fix a flat and a membership with AAA.

Eh... i have The Duals in my car... the ones you buy with the box at best buy... they are actually pretty good.. used the baggage belts to strap em in and its just sitting there in my trunk... about 50 pounds... you can REALLY feel it when you turn sharp cause the car does a drift now... but its still nice, 600 RmS power last i checked..

The only problem with RX 7 ... tiny space for anything extra.. Right now i got a siren and voiceover system with 150W loudspeaker system... but that huge magnet and loudspeaker dont fit in my engine bay... WHERE THE HELL CAN I FIND SOME ROOM TO MOUNT IT OUTSIDE OF CAR??? (i know its off topic but its sorta about audio)

You guys are lucky. Where do you fit subs in a vert?? We have a bazooka mounted in the spare tire well under the storage panel, along with a 10 disc changer. The spare is in the spare tire well at the very back. (Don't know why there are 2 spare tire wells in a vert....). It wont be shaking the neighbors windows, but it sounds nice enough while cruising around. Forget even hearing the stereo if you are up to highway speeds (above 70mph) though, unless top is up and windows closed.

Later,
Bill

Fix a flat doesn't fix a blowout, or anything that's not a single small hole. AAA is good, but it'll take a lot longer than putting a spare on.

Personally I'm not willing to trade off not having a spare for slightly better sounding bass.

Also, in many parts of BC there's no cell service at all, so I'd be screwed if I had a blowout and no spare.

Different strokes for different folks.

My speakers were going out in my 88 vert and I was tired of listening to tin, so I couldn't just add speakers.

It's not much, but it's enough to shake the tiny car. Any one else have other setups for convertibles.

i want to do a similar setup like this in mine, what exactly were the problems? and do you put the storage bin covers back on it, cause from the pic it looks like you covered up where it connects with carpet

thx scott

getting the plywood to haver a good seal around the entire area was the big trick. it still needs some work, the cabinet isnt sealed enough so my amp is over driving the speakers, becuase there isnt enough restriction, ect.

here is a picture of the frame that i welded into the are to secure the board down, i hate cars that ratlle!

Actually im my setup if your really worried about having a spare, well thats what the luggage straps are good for!. plus it looks much cooler with a big fat spare tire back there, anyways i would'nt trust my 19 year old spare tire to carry me anywhere

I dont have any pics of my setup yet. I built a box to sit where the storage bin would typically be, but the sub faces down. So theres absolutly no trace of any aftermarket audio components, but still sounds really nice.

I actually have the same sub as CantScreamOverYou. Its a 8" sub, but the magnet structure is quite massive. Makes up very nicely for the lower frequency ranges.

IJ've put subs in 2 rex's. The first was much like one of the first posts in this thread; 2 subs mounted on a backing board covered in carpet, face up with the magnets sticking down into the space where the storage bins had been. Amp was mounted in between them on the board. Unfortunately it was visible, and someone broke into the car and stole the whole board with the lot installed on it. Currently I have a Kenwood self-powered 10" box (can't remember the model number) that sits in the back right corner of the hatch covered in a blanket to avoid tempting the thiefy people. Sounds great, very easy to put in, not conspicuous and still leaves most of the hatch usable.

if thats true y do spl guys tune the length from the speaker to the dash.... bcs they are tuning to the wave length that plays loudest in there car

alright...
get ready for my redneck system

I've got 2 house speakers (120W)
hooked up to the rear wires (100W to each speaker)
the rear speakers and front speakers are out

so the only sound is coming from those 2 house speakwers

and it sounds good actually
pretty nice bass
and great sound

I had to do something cheap!
But im a while I'm going to put in 4 speakers
(2 front and 2 rear)
the front ones like 50 W
and the rear ones 100W

I've got a nice stereo in it, but it only puts out 200W- 4 channel (50W per channel)
so I'll give a little more power to the rear

and then... build a box with 2 10" woofers
I've got the wires run already

So I just need those 4 small speakers, an amp, and 2 10" subs
that'll give good treble and kick *** bass

yep!

heres my current set up (my rex is a 2+2)

I am thinking of doing a setup like Calypso's and GodSquadMandrake's using 2 12 inchers.
Did you guys have sealed boxes, or is it just like a flat panel?

I do have an alarm but I'd still be worried about thieves in the Orlando area. I was thinking I could just throw a blanket on top of them while its parked or something, but thats kinda ghetto, then you're always driving around with a friggin blanket in your ride.
