i came up with this setup after some @-hole broke in and stole my amp.The carpet in back folds up to cover the subs and the amp and stuff is attached to the metal frame of the back seat, which i removed all the cloth, padding etc from.this folds down and locks protecting the expensive stuff! Note: these pics are before completion its now all covered in nice black leather. Also my other car is a towtruck so i don't worry too much about flats!

Here are my subs.
2 12" Clarions 500 watt max, 250 RMS watts
Boss amp, supposedly 220watts feed each sub, its a cheapo amp, it works though.
Custom made (by my friend and I, little side company we have) full 3/8" acrylic sealed sub enclosure. ~2.50 cu. ft. of total airspace for both subs.
clarion deck from Frys, yeaah...
6"OS Blaupunkt component speakers in the speaker towers
I dont really use my 7 for hauling stuff about, although I dont really need to haul anything around so there is no need for rear trunk space.
O ya it looks pretty sick when I'm driving on the road cause the height of the box is pretty close to the rear glass, so you can see all four speakers bumpin'.
I must say the Rx7 is a crazy good insulator of sound because, i'll have the music turned to max, without clipping of course, with the windows and doors closed and your can barely hear anything.

sounds nice and looks great.. !
only reason why im not using it anymore is becuase it was a problem when i got my rear strut tower bar.

I like how you have that all incognito, wankelme! I dunno that I'd wanna get rid of my spare tho, so I am trying to figure out a setup that goes somewhere else but can be easily covered...

I am going to have a car audio shop build a custom box for my 2 8's where the storage bins would be. My car did not come with the bins, so it came stock with a "frame" for the bins with 2 thin pieces of plywood covering each "bin hole" with a single piece of carpet covering the entire area. Looking in the back of it, you do not know there is alot of empty space below the carpet.
Therefore, I will have 2 8's in one sealed box, keep the "frame". I will install the stock thin pieces of plywood over the speakers, after I cut some slits in the plywood for the sound to escape better. Then I put the orginal stock carpet back over everything. I will mount the amp behind one of the seats. It will look completely stock.
I have had problems with theft in the past as well, My car has been broken into twice to steal subs I just had in a box in the hatch in plain view. Once with an alarm!!!!

Yeah I don't think alarms really do all that much to deter stereo thieves. I mean they can be in and out of your car so quick that it doesn't really matter if they set off an alarm or not. just my opinion.
So whatever I decide on for my set up, I really need to figure out how to make it look as stock as possible. There probably no way I could do that with two 12"s, could I?

well the second time my car got broken into (w/ alarm), the guy broke the window and took off when the alarm went off. So, nothing was stolen, but I did have a broken window. So, I don't want to keep having to deal with a broken window, lost equipment, etc. etc.
As far as the size of speakers that could go in there, the 12 inch in diameter would physically fit, but I'm not sure the space for the box would be big enough. 12's would def. need a bigger box and also have more depth. It just depends on the amount air space they need. I havent looked into subs in the last 6 or 7 years, but I remember back then that Kicker Solo Barics didnt need a very big box. Trick would be to find a 12 that did not require a huge box (i.e. a lot of air space).
Do you already have the subs?

Well I don't have to subs yet, but I found a good deal on Infinity Perfect 12"s. I know they aren't the best subs ever but I hear they are pretty good. They also only require 1 cu. ft for each one, so if I did a pair of them I would need a little over 2 cu. ft. (when you add in the volume that the magnet and stuff take up.)
So lets just say it needs to be 2.5 cu. ft... Then I think I could easily fit a box somewhere and make it so it can be hidden... I don't actually have rear bins, I have rear seats, but since seats are utterly useless and weigh a fair amount anyway, I am considering losing the seats and putting the sub box where they used to be. Now the question is can I "hide" a 2.5 cu. ft box where the seats used to be. What do you guys think?
I Gotta do some measuring...

ok so i have a problem...I see everyone here with these big huge speakers and i Have got 2 12's pushing about 300 watts combined with a 1000 watt sony xplod...And lastnight i burned up my alternator...so I was wondering how i could get more power to run bigger speakers cause I would like to buy 2 kicker L7's to put in my car which would also be 12" but they would be running at 750 watts a piece so i need some advice

what do u mean by FD...and i was looking around online and it says tht u can take a 3rd gen RX7 and take the alternator from tht and it puts out 200amps...lemme kno what to do

i know it looks like sin.. but there was a punch P2 in there with a blown coil and i was still able to hit 132.9 with a gm7100M
now i have a type R in there with alpine 400watt class D amp 600 peak and i hit 147.2
in a regular small box.. i was hardly 130.. i think it was 129.3 or some ****
a bitch to take out for auto x and drift but ah well

ok so with tht alternator which should be in in the next few days what else will be needed...it needs to be able to drive my new head unit(alpine) and mids n tweets(kicker) and 2 L7 12" 4ohm(kicker) and a 1200watt amp(kicker) will it be able to handle all that or is there more that ill need

what is the kicker amp?
model number will work.. remember 1 amp 2 subs.. 4ohm voice coils its either going to be 1ohm or.. 4? i believe.. i'm a little tired.. and you loose a lot of power with that 2ohm-4ohm spread
you should be alright.. but that alternator may be a little excessive.. make sure to get a VERY good battery, big 3 upgrade.. and i do believe that the FD alt is 130amp

Depends on what your after.
my lights would dim to hell and I could pic the subs where not up to it at high volume without a Cap.
you will find when your amp draws current your battery will not be able to supply it with enough current in short burst. where as a Capacitor can.
Get a Cap and you should be fine.
I upgraded to a FD as my old Alt was on the way out. now I get good 12-14.4 volts.
