Score, looks like a nice S5. As for the idle, as the car gets warmer it's natural that the idle would drop. As for it idleing at 500.. that's almost a little low for my likings. The 13B should idle around 750 RPMS at full operating temperature.

It should start up and idle around 3000rpm, then eventually it'll drop to around 750-800. Looks to be a S5 (89-91). Definatly nice

it shouldn't idle @ 3K for more than a few seconds then gradually move down to 2K, 1500K then 750

it drove very nice .. but after i took it on the freeway it was at around 500ish maybe between 500 and 600 ill look at it really close next time ... in really good shape guy even said he'd throw in some aftermarket wheels he got for it

Nice car, definatly a good score.

The idle is totally normal, 500 may be a bit low but you could always just adjust it to be slightly higher once warm. Definatly a nice looking S5, and black is so sexy of course.

later

Not a bad deal, I ended up paying $4,600 for my 90 GTU with 97k miles. A little much, but it has a fresh motor in it that supposedly cost 4,500 to have installed. Where, when, or how many miles were on the car it was put in I have no clue though. All I can really tell is that it's hella clean and there's an Atkins rotary sticker on the air box.

500 is low for an idle and probably not a comfy idle either...in my experience, a slight bump from factory specs makes a more consistent and smooth idle (hey, these are old cars - compression etc...will NOT be perfect). 850-900 is where I like it I also have an underdrive pulley so this helps with voltage drop at night.

I would buy it for sure!! I'm biased though, cause I own the exact same car. Black 1990 GXL. (It was like a beige color when I bought it, then I had it painted black.) I've loved it ever since I've had it. Got it about five years ago for a lot more than $3000, oh well. ****** it up while you can!
