every single car in PR running SAKURA EMS control ignition with a first gen dizzy msd boxes and coils and they run low 7s so if it works for them you can even go MSD

about the coils. no one disputes them to be better than FC coils, and nothing has been proven or disproven about the reni coils. but the FD coils are not "bad". they are just not better than FC coils. but for my NA application with no PP, or bridge. they should be more than enough. especially if i add a 6a. or a few of them. they have been ran on FD motors well into the 9k rpm range of the renesis. and in PR, they still run 1st gen dizzys on boosted motors running 10's. FD coils > 1st gen set up

so my choice of coils are not that important to me. they will do the job. and do it well. and i think they will look the best when completed.
Personally, I would still be a little leary about using the FD coils and make a mental note of this should there ever be any issuses with ignition breakup at any RPM level.

The mounts, still look great.

One test or log is greater than every single opinion every spoken or posted. Is that so tuff to understand?

im working on the oil pan and a few other things. since i have no knowledge of anyone else doing this swap. im having to do a lot of thinking and making choices. not just copy what someone else did. plus its the holiday season right now. not much time.

so this will not be the fastest build up ever. but i'll be updating as much as possible. but im also working on my TII at the same time...

oh...im not rich also. lol

The Renesis coils need to be grounded really well. They typically run out of steam somewhere a little north of 300 hp however for an n/a they work just fine. Speedsource Racing runs them on the race cars but they pay special attention to making sure they are grounded very well. If you look at the back of the coils and see a white circle, if it's larger than a dime throw the coils away. It doesn't matter if they still work. Ditch them. They're toast.

Personally I'd run 2nd gen coils. These are the best coils that have ever come with a rotary and they can easily hold their own against most aftermarket coils such as MSD and others. Why people don't like them is beyond me. I'd use them over the 3rd gen coils too.

i have done a few more things. but nothing much. just stripping the engine bay, cutting out useless wires from the engine bay, and things like that.

i been trying to sell one of my cars to fund this also. when/if that happens, there will be plenty of updates.

i dig the project man. i have an 04 rx8 and it died last week.. i havent had time to break it down to find out why with work and everything else thats going on. i bought it with 20k miles on it and its sitting at 42k in the drive way lol.

(i know there is an rx8club forum but i cant post there yet. Plus i think you guys know your stuff alot better in my opinion so i post here)

my point is that i dont think the reni is any more reliable than any other rotary. i drove it hard when i wanted to but i took care of it changing the oil every two months whether or not it needed it. how long are you expecting this motor to last? Im so dissapointed with the 8 i found myself looking at non rotor swaps... sad day. but dont worry i cant drive a car without the rotor's whir

there is a reason why the reni's are dying so quikly...

theres 2 oil injectors on the pre- 2009 motors. angled to only face the corner and side seals. leaving the apex seal un lubricated. this results in excessive wear. this is also why rx8's do not dyno consistent numbers. the new ones 2009+ have 3 oil injectors. they added one in the center to lube the apex seal. mazda never announced this and is trying to keep it under the radar. all the people that have warrantys are getting the 09 motors.

how to fix this problem = pre-mix

i like the pro-tek R brand from Pettit Racing. the motor will last plenty long doing this.

and to add, rotarys are reliable if treated correctly. look at some 1st gens. i have seen a few with 200k and more running stong.

my brother had one with 213k and abused it badly. the only reason it got rebuilt was to bridge it. even then we only replaced all the springs and gaskets. all the side, corner, and apex seals stayed. cars still running strong...

I dont think that is a risk I would have taken having the engine already apart, but to each his own. Topic is great so far, may be inspiration for when my 13b n/a gives out.
