1986 Rex

Hey guys I found a RX7 locally decided to go look at it. The car runs fine and sounds good but when i popped the hood the air filter was taken off. Just a big open hole where it should be. The guy says its been like that for half a year and he hasnt noticed any problems with it. I can get one and put it on but how much damage could have been done to the motor having no filter for 6 months? what do you think

Pass on the car unless you want to replace the engine.

Keep in mind that anyone stupid enough to run a car without an air filter has probably hacked/destroyed the rest of the car as well.

That's one way of putting it if the original poster is looking for a project. Personally I'd be all over it if the rest of the car is in good shape, but my offer would likely be well under $500.

Totally depends. Used, from free to $1000. Rebuilt, from about $1000 at the low end to about as much as you are willing to spend at the high end...Then there's labor on top of that if you can't do the work yourself.

ouch... no filter, or anything for more than half a year. I can imagine how much pain the car is in. Like Aaron said, just dont over pay for something thats gonna kick ya in the *** in the long run.

How much were you willing to put down? or how much was he/she asking for? 500$ or less sounds about right. Look at the condition of the car. What about the transmission? and other big components. I cant even imagine how bad the differential stinks of old musty oil. Good Luck!

The guy said he wants 500 obo, but the windsheild needs to be replaced too. The car isnt much of a cream puff either. I think im going to steer clear of this one. If anyone has an RX for sale in PA or surrounding states that would be awesome.

Thats cool, its best to stay away from the car if you think its going to hold you back, or cause trouble later. Its a good thing you have this site to chat about it. Otherwise you'd probably be driving the car right now... WITH NO FILTER!!!

Poor car... anyways, good luck on your next find! Come back and let us know what happens!
