Thats a pretty small cooler compared to stock. Also it probably doesn't have the temp bypass
valve in it that the stock ones have which make warmup quicker by not running oil through the
cooler until it warms up.

I'm gonna say no your idea won't work.

Guess what I did on mine. It's a GSL-SE that had a leaky oil cooler fitting where they always crack. I couldn't find a replacement in time so I installed a beehive. It works great even on a turbo 13B so I kinda wonder why you'd want to put a setup together that will be expensive, not cool as well, and require a bunch of engineering to get it in there. My advice: look for stock parts. Even a beehive. They're big enough to work and contain a thermostat so they work properly. Oh and they fit easily too.

I can run a thermostat no problem, what about a 6x12? This is a 12a and I want to get rid of the water/oil cooler thats stock.
EDIT: I do have a beehive, but its just so tiny, does it really do a better job than what I proposed?

If I were you I would look for a 2nd gen FMOC and get the RB lines and skip relocating the filter.

Couldn't I just run the cooler's piping through the beehive too? extra cool? then I'd be all set. I'm really set on the old school "external" mount oil cooler.....

I did something similar to what you want to do. If I had to do again I'd go with the 2nd gen FMOC

Rotary-Works FMOC = $200
Earl External Oil Temp Thermostat = $100
-10 Hoses and adapters = $150

Just go the FC FMOC route, much easier and is almost a direct bolt on replacement.

I did the 2nd gen fmoc also, I had a hydraulic hose shop modify the 2nd gen hoses by adding length of hose to them.
Cost me 25.00.
I got the oil cooler for free and made my own brackets to mount on the car, so im in only 25.00.
Plus I jus picked up another 2nd gen oil cooler for 40.00, which ill be adding to the car.
Twin 2nd gen oil coolers for very good oil cooling

Too much oil cooling is not good. It can cause the oil to not come up to temp and be to thick.
