What's the DIFFERENCE!?!?!?!?

I just wanted to know what was the difference with the gs, gsl, gsl-se, etc.
I wanted to know if the difference between these models were the size of the body or what. I own a 85 rx7 gs.....some of the mechanics that have seen under the hood say I will not be able to fit a 13b under there unless it was a gsl model or higher.
So what's the difference?!?!? Please help!!

The only difference in the models is options basically with the exception of the GSL-SE which had the 13B, LSD, four wheel discs, and a different lug pattern

dude the mechanics dont know there a$$es from a hole in the ground. You can put a 13B into any model! They are thinking that because the 13b is larger it wont fit except in models gsl and up because thats a stock option or what they have personally seen. Take a 13B block and compare it to a 302 or 350........If you can get a 350 into a gs...........It dwarfs the 13B in size. ......... The only changes between models is only slight, mostly options such as power windows, and brakes otions, plus the "Comfort otions", tell your mechanic he just got !

S was the base model. Came with no real options and no sunroof. Open differential and drum rear brakes. Had the 12A engine. GS was basically an S with a few more options and was available with a sunroof. GSL was basically the top model up untill 84 when the GSL-SE came out. GSL had rear LSD and disk brakes, 12A engine, and came mostly fully loaded. GSL-SE, which was only available in 84 and 85, had a special wheel bolt pattern, bigger rear disk brakes, a LSD rear end, FI 13B engine, and slightly modified suspension geometry to reduce the tendancy to snap oversteer.

Any 13B engine can be put into any 12A powered car, given you use a 12A or 1st gen 13B front cover, and a 1st gen 13B oil pan. Beyond that, nothing real special has to be modified to the car itself.

you can take trhe lsd out of a gsl and put it into a gs...

and as far as the differences are, the gsl-se has slightly larger brakes, so they are not exactly the same as the gsl, and also the lsd is geared slightly different, and as previously stated, the suspension is also different.
