what are the holes in the roof's side posts for?

those holes just before the triangular quarter windows. can I block them off, tape them over? they look like they are just begging for a wasp nest. I live in the insecty humid south.

Those are body/cabin vents. and they would be a nice place for a wasp nest. Not sure what would happen blocking them closed...

I'd have to assume they are there for a reason. That being said, you can put some screen material (like on your house windows) on the back side and screw the covers back on.

Yep, they vent air out of t he cabin. This is why these cars are so comfortable to drive. Cabin air flow is really nice even with the windows up. The screen idea Chris mentions is a good one.

They are for cabin pressure relief such as when you shut the door. At least that's my assumption. https://jalopnik.com/heres-what-thos...-re-1828016409

All cars (since the '50's) have vents so air flows naturally through the cabin, even with the windows closed. Some are obvious (like our RX's) and some hide it better (take the bed off any modern pickup and you'll see vents on the rear of the cab). Block them off if you want to die from gas and cigarette fumes.

Those holes were put there to let the spirit of Felix in.

Breath in, you can feel it.

Sun roof water passage

I've noticed when I wash my car that the water from the sun roof drains through those vents.

Hmmm might double as a rear sunroof drain. But they all have em, even without a sunroof...

Cabin venting would also mean water gets in.. maybe this is why they rust literally right under there by the bins...

It's main purpose is interior cabin venting. Look it up. don't know how it works (usually a one way flap or door). The sunroof drains, if out of place could cause said water in leak.
