webber carb
webber carb
hello all, i have an 84 gsl with a modded nikki that i continue to have problems with like primary venturis dribbling while idleling. have worked on it to get it to stop to no avail, done everything to fix it including setting the floats multiple times, needles, seats ect. have two sets of oringinal needles and seats. i am thinking of buying an webber 45 dcoe copy wtih intake. will this be less problems for drivability then my modded nikki.? not looking for HP just want the car to drive well and not leak fuel while idling i have searched all the first gen threads. there are so many i cant find much or know where to look for the threads on using a webber side draft....thank you
Yes the DCOE carburetor and manifold will fix your leaking Nikki by removing the Nikki and manifold. Keep in mind you will run out of fuel in third/fourth flat out unless you ALSO change the fuel pump and regulator... then you get into the cycling turn signal with the fuel pump etc etc.
Why and how was your Nikki modified? Was it done in a backyard shop or someone with knowledge? Not slighting anyone who did the modifying for you, but it would be good to know the history of the carb.
I am sure someone has a nikki carb they could sell for dirt cheap that you could rebuild for much cheaper. I would stick with that before you drop the cash for an expensive aftermarket setup, especially since you are not chasing power goals.

i modded the carb per sterling's instructions other than the AP modification, all emissions removed, all vents capped or sealed. carb rebuilt using original needles and seats. carb only dribbles when its idling. one venturi or the other sometimes both. i have adjusted the floats multiple times per the service manual, going up down and all in between. no luck. it is only a slight dribble. but its very annoying
To me it sounds like the base plate has an issue and is causing the pressure in the venturi to pull fuel up instead of using the idle circuit. I would check the baseplate and make sure the isolator are both working and don't have any clogs.

What's your fuel pressure? A Weber will blow past the needle and seat and run the bowls too high just as much as a Nikki if your pressure is too high. No more than 4psi and I usually run about 2psi.
The procedures listed for setting float heights usually make the fuel level way too high, too.
