Vacuum leak or clogged cat?

I have a 1983 rx7 Ive been trying to figure out what is the problem with it. It sounds like a vacuum leak so I had the carburetor rebuilt and it still didnt fix my problem. Si I had it sitting for a while and it whas getting cold, I started it up and I could no longer hear the vacuum leak until it warmed up. So ive been lead to believe its my vacuum hoses, but I read a post recently that somone mentioned a clogged cat could sound like a vacuum leak, even if the leak seems to be the hoses and I get them replaced and that fixes the problem should I still clean out the cats?

If you don't need the cats for a visual or emissions inspection you should invest in a nice
exhaust like a RB SP system.

Did you hit the hoses with carb cleaner, while the car is running and try to track down the "leak"?
