I'm about to do the same thing. Basically, you unbolt the converter, stir a long screw driver around in there. Then shake all the old pellets and $h!t out of it and bolt back into place using new gaskets. I plan on getting the cat replacement pipe (comes with a cover plate to look like a converter) from www.racingbeat.com

rebar is good for this too. just be sure that you don't get any debris in the remaining exhaust system. it will cause an even worse clog than you already had. (this is best done with the cat removed from the car)

a stock rx-7 muffler with no cats sounds pretty good.

I am not surprised. I use to love the way my car sounded with a little bit of a exhaust leak. Thanks Guys!

When i got my exhaust done, my air pump had siezed long ago and the temp in the exhaust had increased to the point that it had blown the guts of my two pre cats in to the big boy . It looked like some one had beaten the metal in there with a chizel.Needless to say it phuckn rips now , best improvement for dollar value for sure

well all engines work like an air pump the more air you get in and the more exhuast u get out the more power. i noticed a huge change in my 1.6 n/a capri when i replaced the cat with a custom made pipe section
