Which turbo to choose...(some help weening the types out)

Switching from my fried RaJay blower, I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand in choosing a new one?

My 82' 12A is currently equipped with a 650cif Holley carb, and runs with an Arkay turbo set up. The engine is flooding due to the disproportioned carb and now NA set up, so I'm looking for a replacement turbo as well as an Intercooler to pair it with.

I have my eye on a T04E, but I want to make sure that it can be compatible with the manifold that's equipped.

If anyone can give me some pointers, or set-up help, it would be greatly appreciated.

first you need to measure the flange to see what type of flange it uses, just measure the following....pitch between bolts, and the actual dimensions of the flange.

that will tell us what type of turbine fits the exhaust manifold. next would be to take some photos of the current downpipe connection, as well as what type of connection you have between the carb hat, and the compressor outlet.

cheers

It takes calculations and turbine maps to figure the right turbo. Figure out what Turbo works for your set-up and your choices will be pretty well narrowed down.

Here's a calculator that can help to start you off

Getting it right takes a bit of calculations, and also depends on your final goals and expectations for the "personality" of the powerband.

Just off the top of my head,a full TO4E is too big for a stock port 12A, or a 12A that sees factory RPMs.The stock TII turbo has a T3 sized compressor and its adequate for a 13B up to around 8-9psi.With just a TO4B compressor upgrade,I get 14psi with relatively low intake temps and turbo shaft speeds, even with a street ported 13BT.
The TO4E would be a beast on a 12A,but I think it would be a long wait, while it got up to speed. The stock S5 Hitachi T18 isnt a bad starting point in that its cheap, availible and relatively easy to adapt to a 12A.And there are plenty of upgrades availible while retaining the easy mounting.....just my opinion/experiences.

It's not a completely stock 12A, and it's already been ported to turbo, but my Rajay blower went, and the big-bastard holley carb is flooding the engine with the inproper fuel/air mixture.

Is there someone that makes ports for the 12A? It would be nice if I can get the T4 on there, and I'd end up throwing an intercooler and possible a hood scoop and air induction for the right side of the hood.

I ended up paying just over $200 for the new T04E, and even if I can't make it fit with the Arkay kit's piping, I'll be able to sell it for more.

To4B is what I have, full boost (13psi) before 3.5k on stock port T2 S5 engine.

Okay, so heres the new scoop.

I've picked up the T04E, the ports don't match completely with the ones from my Rajay setup, but I'm having them resize the ports so that it will mount just the same.

I have my eye on an intercooler and blow off from a Grand National to mount in front of the Radiator for additional cooling. I'll create holes through the side of the mount

I'll be putting pics up as soon as I get them onto my comp.

Any good Ideas for suspension kits for the FB's ? Hahah. Seems like I'll need to be able to control which direction I'm going in when the time comes.

Maybe a steering kit to make it more responsive and some stiffer struts. There are a ton of threads on various suspension work.
