There is no shim on the countershaft bearing, only the input bearing. The countershaft is located axially by the bearing in the midplate, so the front bearing will have to be able to float freely. The only shim is for the input shaft bearing.

The input bearing is the one you are not measuring. Mazda seems to still list shims for the input for an NC Miata 5 speed which should be the same part.

I ordered a new shim from the dealer when I did my clutch back in 2018

9996-36-315 is for the .15mm/.006in part.
9996-36-330 is for the .3mm/.012in part.

Edit: I believe the dealer catalog does not go all the way back to the FB's now but they could order parts using those numbers above. Get the new paper gasket for the cover too.

understood, but there WAS a shim there that was rusted out when I took the bearing cover off, but the trans has been worked on because there is RTV on all the seams, i was worried about running it without it but maybe it doesn't matter?

Plugging both those P/N's into one of the on line dealers, show them both still available for under $10 each.
