Tirerack doesn't carry...

Hmmm.... I read lots o good stuff about the Yokohama AVS-Intermediates-and I want them!!! I also wanted the largest size I could safely get, which is 205/60 from what I gather. Yoko AVS-Is in that size are not sold on Tirerack. Is that because they don't make that size, or do I have to look elsewhere? If I can't get it in that size, I guess I'll get the Sumitomo HRT200s in that size... The 200s are good, right (compared with the AVS-Is)?

you might have clearance problems at thr front wheels with 205-60's.

Tire Rack didn't have the Pirelli P7000s I bought either. Sometimes you just have to buy local.

Really? Probs in the front? Hmmmm... I did a big search and read for all tire info here--they say that 205s should fit just fine!

But for the local shops, the only line that carries Yokos (that I know of) is NTB and they don't have the correct size that I want.

N/M, I was thinking 205/60 15's or bigger. I forget that the older ones had 13 inch wheels.

I can tell you first hand that 205/55-16's are too tall. They can be made to go in there, but they look awful. (and I haven't been able to wear them out to buy new ones!) I'm not impressed with the AVSi's. They don't seem to have much traction on very cold days. I miss my old (obsolete) RE-71's. Anybody have any experience with something a little stickier? And Cheap?

205/50R16s fit. 55s would be an inch or so greater circumference than stock.

I'm happy with my Pirelli P7000s. Aggressive tread pattern (visually and performance wise) good wet-weather handling... a bit twitchy over bumps but all wide low profiles are like that.

But they were anything but cheap.

Tirerack wouldnt sell me the AVS I's (185/60 flavor) they said it was a bit shy on the load rating???

So I got the 205/60/13 sumitomo's(cheper, right around 40 a pop)

got em to my door in 2 days for 200bux add on 50 for mount and balance at local place

Am I impressed, well they arent that bad and since I dont have an LSD I cant really comment on traction but it was better than the old Yoko's i had on there. Also they arent doing to terrible in the twists. They are pretty good and Id prolly buy em again.
hope this helps

205/60/13 on mine would rub in front on the inside if turned sharp. Just a little

you have to be one of the only people i've ever heard that didn't like the traction. everyone, magazines included, said that this was the stickiest street tire to buy but wouldn't last very long. are you sure you don't have one of the avs variants? maybe they jip the smaller sizes. i have the sumitomos too and they are pretty sticky. but my car doesn't really lean in corners so its also the suspension. 205/60-13's should fit fine.

When you have lots of torque, nothing is sticky.

Well, I happen to work at the Tire Rack in South Bend, IN. The latest news on the AVSi's is Yoko stoped making them. We bought out the remaining stock and the pickin's are slim. I got a set used from a cutomer 205/50/15's for nothin but I got a bubble in the side wall in one. But that size isn't available no mo. We do installs. I bet we are the best in the Country. As far as quality. Kumho makes a great tire and for the money Bridgestone S-03's are probably the best thing out there. Yokohama AVS db's are good too. Pirelli and Goodyear make the lowest quality tire I have ever had experience with. They are garbage! Junk!

Never used Goodyear so I can't comment. Like any other tire manufacturer I imagine they have their low end and high end product.

I looked into tires used on ReXes by many people who's opinion I respect, including Dave Coleman, editor of Sport Compact Car. What came back was a resounding "Pirellis". I bought 'em and couldn't be happier. Any japanese tire I've tried doesn't seem to do well in the extremes of temperature I live in.

Goodyear performance tires generally do not work below 40-45degF (5-8c). They glass over.

That said, I have heard that GS-Cs are actually quite good in the snow. Wouldn't know, doubt I will, since they've been discontinued.

I thought the tire rack carried the AVS I's in 185-60-13, that would be an improvement in gearing and they should still outstick lesser but larger tires. I would get those if I still ran 13's
