Tips on fixing this oil leak?

Hi guys - now that I have a working transmission and functional door seals I am moving on to an oil leak.

This rubber o-ring is pretty floppy and appears to be letting oil past it. From doing some searching it seems that this is not uncommon, but I haven't found the procedure for replacing it. Could someone take to me to school on this please?

Is there a specific part # I am looking for?

Thanks!

Normally there is no rubber there, its a press fit into the center iron.

Yeah, looks like somebody added that O ring for decoration. The oil fill tube should press fit into the center iron very tightly, so tight it's hard to remove if you decide you want to.

Are you sure it's leaking there? I've never heard of that happening, but if it is the oil fill tube must not be properly seated. Does it feel loose in anyway? Can you wiggle or turn it?

Thanks guys, it looks like oil is leaking there so let me clean it up well and then drive her to see if I can better pinpoint what is going on. I'll check to make sure it isn't loose at the same time.

Thanks!

It could be a dowel pin oring leaking, i highly doubt its coming from the fill tube

Unless every time you add oil you spill it lol

It's an internal O ring TD, to fix it you need to tear the engine down. Typically you see oil pooling on top of the engine, on the front housing near the 12A insignia.

However if the leak isn't too bad you can live with it, often for tens of thousands of miles. There is an engine oil additive, Gold Eagle Stop Leak, that reduced a very serious O ring leak in one of my 12As to essentially nothing, just a drop once in awhile and not enough to worry about between oil changes. I added another 50,000 miles to that engine before I sold it. Here's the stuff:

I'd cut that O-ring off of there, as its probably just catching stray oil dripping off the fill tube when you add, and doesn't belong there anyway. If the fill tube is loose, grab a 2x4 and a dead blow hammer and put it back how it belongs. I bet you it's not even a leak point on your engine.

Also check the nipple that is about halfway up the oil filler tube. If the vacuum hose is not there it could be where the oil is coming from.
