Read a bit, there have been 10 threads in the last month.

dont take it out, there is a block plate at the bottom of it that changes the water from cerculating in the engine to going to the rad. RB says to block the hole by taping it with a 1/2 tap and putting a pipe plug in it if you want to run with out one. Wacky says to cut off the top part so only the block plate will function and water will always go to the Rad and when cold throught the engine some. Atkins sells a 160 T-stat if you just want to bring the temps down.

Yeah, what they said. You can't rev hard on a cold engine, right? Without a t-stat, your engine will probably not get up to a high enough temp unless you are full out racing it. Keep it in so that your engine can run at the temp it is happiest with.

nope but it just takes longer to warm up....also, RB's recommendation of tapping the water pump by-pass only for track car, not street car.

They say that with out something to block the bypass that it will burn up the engine. But I have not been able to find why they say that.

The dumb answer is water will circulate inside the waterpump instead of through the engine.
