I have been using this 2 stroke oil for a while now, and though its expensive seems to burn clean, and havent noticed any issues so far (230 miles on rebuild). Mainly, I am wondering if the bottle HAS to say TC-W3 for it to be an effective friction modifier in a rotary engine.

It is called Mobil 1 Racing 2T fully synthetic oil. Here is link to specs:

From what I read on Mobil's site that mix should be fine. The whole tc-w3 on the bottle thing is just an easier way of knowing what will work and what wont. Your high dollar stuff there will. Most cheap 2 stroke mixes wont. Thats why we say to look for the rating on the bottle.

What rating should I be looking for?? I thought 2 stroke oil was 2 stroke oil

 

TC-W3 just holds in suspension in gasoline tanks, whereas other non TC oils tend to settle, fwiw.

 

Does it matter if you use synthetic or not?

 

Pretty sure it doesnt matter if its syn or not. Before, I bought a gallon of the SUper Tech (walmart stuff) and didnt seem to have a problem, although it did smoke more than this stuff does.

It doesn't matter whether it is natural oil or synthetic, it must meet the standards to bear the TC-W3 spec.

 

yeah i have some canadian tire no synthetic and its alittle smokey not much but when you punch the throttle theres a little puff of smoke

 

So then should I switch over to something else that has the TC-W3 spec, or is this stuff ok? I am running the RA OMP adapter, so its not mixed in with gas.

Edit: Hold on, that link is saying marine applications specifically, and the oil I am asking about is saying its for motorcycle use. Is this possibly why it isnt TC-W3 rated?
