"stock" exhaust...what' s best?

Hit just too many RB exhaust hits when using the search to determine what is best if I want to stay stock. Any info appreciated.

<editorial comment> I thought the goal of the clean-air movement was to help slowly nudge people to compliance, rather than cause financial disaster. Ask me now. They won't f***'in test the thing until it hits a certain level of compliancy, such as ABSOTIVELY POSOLUTLY NO EXHAUST LEAKS AT ALL, and no blue smoke for longer than 5 seconds out of any 60 second period. OMP rebuild + New ***-end exhaust + ???? just to get to spend my minimum $$$ to pass clean air! What a joke!
</editorial comment>

Back to the point of this all...if I need to stay stock for clean-air, should I buy Mazda *** end for the exhaust , or is there a better (or cheaper, and just as good) option?

Thanks in advance for the info...

Previous owner put a NAPA replacement rear muffler on the car before I got it and it's held up wonderfully, even after the cat removal... I think it was made by Bosal, but it may be Walker, not sure.. anyways, it was a little under $300.. I'd be willing to bet a Mazda dealer would want your first-born and maybe a limb or two for a OEM muff...

If you ask me, the Racing Beat muffler (is that the *** end you are talking about?) lookes so identical to the stock unit no one would know the difference. If anyone asks why its so clean or less used looking, just tell them its a new stock replacement. Plus, itll make the car sound better and free up a couple HP anyway...

I'm with TJ on the RB muffler. The muffler has no impact on emissions anyhow, so why hurt yourself by going to the stock unit? Get a RB header, a Bonez hi flo cat and the RB muffler. That way, you get a lot of freed up power and you should pass the sniffer test. If Ontario has the visual inspection, however, the headers will fail you.

If I was you, I'd title the car to a PO box in Manitoba. No air tests in Manitoba.

Do the RB headers cause any problem with the emmissions, or is it just that they aren't stock?

If you believe Mazdatrix, the emissions are typically better than stock with the new cats. Headers dont' really impact emissions per se, except on startup, because they eliminate the pre-cat. So make sure your car is good and warmed up when you take it for testing, and you should be fine. Like I said though, if Ontario does visual inspections, they may fail you because of the headers and not even test the exhaust.

I have a complete exhaust setup for an 82. manifold to muffler. works just fine. I just upgraded to RB. You can have it for $20.00 (for my time packing it up) + shipping, if you want it. It's just taking up space in my garage right now.

The RacingBeat header will not bolt right up to the Bonez high flow cat. BUT, I believe the Mindtrain header will. The Mindtrain header, from my understanding, is a direct replacement for the stock exhaust manifold and the Bonez cat is designed to mate up with the stock manifold. So.... there ya go. With the car in tune and an exhaust using the Bonez cat or the Mazdatrix high-flow cat, you should have no problem at all passing the sniffer test.

Hmm... interesting.. so the MindTrain 12A header would bolt up to the stock cats? I've got a RB cat replacement pipe in my car now, it replaces the main and precat. I knew about the RB header outlet winding somewhere about the middle of the main cat, but you're saying the MT would line up with my RB pipe? Hmm... veddy interesting...
