well cosidering your redline is about 6.5 to 7...you hitting 8.5 isnt ganna help at all, i doubt its ganna hurt it but its not ganna help, check your cars specs to see what you should be shifting @...ps most mis shifts are due to people hurring the engine, you shouldnt be in a race with the other car...but trying to get the most out of your own, dont worrie about him/her and keep it safe, ive won alot more races trying this aproce than trying to out shift/rev someone else

Considering he has a 1990 GTU, an S5 NA car, his redline is actually 8000 rpm.
Really, you didn't do too much to the engine, save a miniscule amount of unnecessary wear. I doubt that you caused enough flex in the e shaft to allow the rotor to knock against the housing, as you would be posting with some questions related to engine trouble.
Really, there are people with basically stock internals who SHIFT as high as you took the engine (at 9000 rpm), but in all honesty, it is unnecessary. Just shift around 6500-7000 when racing, and you will save engine wear and also accelerate faster.
Congrats on your new car, btw.
