Sourcing Weird Connectors

Hey Guys,

I've managed to find a source for *almost* every wiring harness connector on our cars (more on that later), but there are still a few having a hell of a time finding.

The big ones are the weird 4-way connectors for the headlight retractor motors, and the tiny 4-pin connectors for the power mirrors.

I'm also having trouble locating connectors for my FC fuse box upgrade, but that's another sub forum (but hey, if anyone knows where to source them, let me know)

Imgur thread of the wonky connectors in question here:

Also, to follow up on an earlier thread, while I still haven't found the round instrument panel connectors, I have found the terminals, so that's progress at least. But yeah if anyone has a source on the connector housings themselves let me know!

A comprehensive thread of all the other connectors I've managed to locate will be coming once they arrive and I'm able to confirm that I've got the right ones.

Cheers,

Jon

These are “Molex” and are about the same size as the original not sure if the wire would fit the pins. I don’t remember where I got them. PM me if you would like them.

Yeah, I see a lot of molex since I work with computers. I could substitute, I was just trying to see if I could figure out what the original connectors are.

Honestly, most people redoing the whole harness would toss the stock Yazaki 250 connectors in favour of something more modern and sealed/weatherproof. I'm choosing to stick close to stock, partly because then if I have to replace parts later on down the line like the power mirror motors or the water temp sensor I don't have to change the connector on the part-side.

Have you tried Eastern Beaver? They specialize in motorcycle stuff but have a bunch of things, some of which translate over to cars.

^+1 for Eastern Beaver, I bought a few connectors from them last year - for the turn signal/wiper combo switch since you can't change the connector on the device itself (at least not easily!).

The rest of my harness is all Deutsch DT/DTM/DTP though so I can't help you with much else

Eastern Beaver was where I started, but they really only have the 250 connectors and a few odds and ends.

I ended up contacting several connector/terminal suppliers and holy crap the folks at Corsa Technic are amazing!

We didn't find the round console connectors (those may be lost to history) but we found all of the .250 connectors, the .305/.312 connectors (steering wheel combo switch, FC Fuse Box - Terminals only), the MIC MK II connectors (CPU, ECU, giant 21-pin connector on passenger side of the engine bay, and several 9, 11, 13, and 21 pin connectors), ring terminals (alt, ignition coils), Bullet Connectors (various interior lights, switches, the rad level sender), the connector for my FD Alt, and a bit more.

The imgur gallery above is basically what we had left. So far I can't find any source for:
- The round 12-pin instrument console connectors (though the Corsa Technical folks helped me find appropriate terminals!)
- My FC Fuse Box (again, they helped me find terminals)
- The Power Mirrors
- The Headlight Retractors
- That weird connector on the Oil Pressure Sensor

So if anyone has leads on the remaining ones let me know.

Next year I'm probably going to start building a new harness from scratch, so look for more info, updates, and pictures at that point.

The folks at Corsa Technic are fantastic. Glad they helped you out with the bulk of the legwork.

I don't think anyone has ever actually identified the FC fusebox connector housing. You can see the Yazaki arrow embossed into it, which is a death sentence for weird outlier connectors. They are really **** poor at documenting their old connector series if it isn't a CN(A). Between S4 and S5 is about the transition between when some stuff goes from impossible to track down to relatively well documented. Curse the Japanese and their fascination with having paper copies of everything that they won't digitize.

Those two other connectors look super freaky. No idea where to even start. I did flick through Toyota's harness manual to see if they have an equivalent connector, but it doesn't look like it. If you could try to wash the dirt and look for identifying marks, it might give indication where to start:
-Yazaki is that arrow I mentioned. They still have it as their logo to this day
-Sumitomo is a sort of diamond insignia that you can look up. They also have this as their logo to this day (although I'm doubtful on this being either connector's mfgr, Sumitomo wasn't really doing connectors back then)
-NipponDenso is just ND in a circle. I have no idea where to find these connectors anymore other than praying there's a Toyota P/N that they have ancient NOS somewhere of
-TE/AMP is going to have just the text AMP embossed somewhere
-Bosch was still using that dumbbell in a circle looking logo. Never actually looked into what they embossed on their connectors, but I'd guess that it's their logo

The oil pressure sender unit is the same as the FC's right? That style of connector is referred to as a nailhead style terminal. I have an old Delphi (they are now called Aptiv) catalog that shows P/N 12015306 works for the housing + an appropriate Packard 56 series female terminal. It's light gray as opposed to the natural plastic in Mazda harnesses, but I haven't been able to find an equivalent with another manufacturer yet. Mouser still shows stock of it.

I need replacements for these items pictured below. Any suggestions on where to source is appreciated. The one is a relay for the up/down lights for my 1985 FB.

Thanks!!

The dimmer part number is FA54-55-490. They call it a Resistor. Probably cheaper used.
